Deception2

Words//Andrew Golliher

Baseball is a leisurely game that demands blazing speed.  A single extra step is what often allows outfielders to turn a potential base hit into a highlight-reel catch. It’s the difference that separates a ground-ball out from an infield hit. But what good is speed without comfort? Realizing the cohesive importance, Under Armour combined the two, creating the Under Armour Deception DT and the Under Armour Yard cleats.

Both the Deception DT and Yard cleats bring major advancements to a game that’s been around for over a century. When you’re tasked with patrolling the outfield for nine innings, it’s important to keep your feet comfortable. Constructed using ClutchFit technology in the upper, both of these cleats wrap your foot in a “second skin,” providing superior comfort, stability, and support. This is matched with full-length Micro G cushioning throughout the midsole and a 4D-foam cushioned sockliner, both of which provide the optimal fit and stability when you need to react to a sharp line drive at the hot corner.

Whether you prefer the Deception DTs in hightop form or low cut, the true driving force that separates these cleats from their competition is the UA DiamondTips. These are the first molded-Pebax-and-metal-cleat tips that provide the feel of a comfortable sneaker, but the traction of traditional metal cleats. Because every advantage helps, the team at Under Armour has constructed the DiamondTips out of carbon steel, making them twice as strong and 67% lighter than traditional metal cleats. So, when you get a jump on the pitcher and begin darting toward second base, they’ll dig into the diamond, not your feet.

When developing the Yard, Under Armour incorporated nine cleats in the form of six forefoot spikes and three heel spikes for optimum traction and stability. When combined with forefoot flex grooves that help to ensure ideal flexibility, that stretch you had to make at first base to beat the runner by half a step just became a whole lot easier. These cleats come in lows or mids, and feature TPU and Trainer variants.
