It’s been confirmed that the NBA will allow players to wear jerseys with their nicknames on the back during select games this season. According to ESPN, the Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets will wear them when they meet March 12 and April 8.

Though the league has been tight-lipped about which nicknames will adorn the jerseys, legendary film director Spike Lee spilled the beans on one player’s earlier this week. On his Instagram page, he shared photos of Ray Allen’s ‘J. Shuttlesworth’ jersey, inspired by his character Jesus Shuttlesworth in Lee’s 1998 film He Got Game. Fifteen years have passed, but the film is one of the all-time greats in sports and the name has stuck with Allen throughout his Hall of Fame career.

Check out a few photos of Ray’s adidas basketball jersey below and let us know which other nicknames you’d like to see this season.

Tonight, the Minnesota Timberwolves are debuting their new alternate uniform at home against the Denver Nuggets.

“We’re excited to debut the new black jerseys tonight,” said Timberwolves forward Kevin Love. “We’ve had a chance to get a sneak peek at the jerseys, and are looking forward to wearing them and hope our fans enjoy them as much as we do.”

The adidas designed short-sleeve uniforms are inspired by the rich, sophisticated nightlife of Minneapolis and continue the team’s black uniform tradition that began in 1996. Side panels feature repeated ‘M’ and ‘W’ patterns to represent the team name. Timberwolves players were involved in the design and evaluation process.

“We think our fans are going to really embrace these new uniforms,” said Timberwolves CMO and Sr. VP of Marketing and Communications Ted Johnson. “As we continue to build our brand, it’s very important that we keep giving our fans fresh new looks and opportunities for them to identify with us.”

Today, adidas continues its BIG holiday tradition by unveiling a new ‘BIG Logo’ platform for Christmas Day’s marquee NBA matchups. As part of the campaign, the brand has also unveiled new uniforms featuring team logos that all 10 teams will wear on December 25.

BIG Logo uniforms are highlighted by large team logos in reflective chrome and ultra-lightweight shorts with chrome piping.

“We worked closely with adidas to create an innovative new uniform design for our Christmas Day games,” said Sal LaRocca, NBA Executive Vice President, Global Merchandising. “The BIG Logo collection will provide a unique look on-court and a variety of products for our fans.”

The campaign also includes ‘Jingle Hoops,’ a TV spot to promote the new jerseys. Athletes featured in the ad include LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, James Harden, Steve Nash and Stephen Curry. The superstars recreate ‘Jingle Bells’ through a series of choreographed three-pointers — each wearing the ‘BIG Logo’ uniforms. Look for ‘Jingle Hoops’ to air on the league’s digital platforms and national broadcast partners beginning today.

“Last season’s ‘BIG Color’ holiday campaign was an overwhelming success that grabbed fans’ attention, and we wanted to find a way to top it,” said Jamie Gallo, NBA Executive Vice President, Marketing. “This season, we’re back with the game’s biggest stars to deliver an engaging and festive sequence that creatively showcases our players’ skills.”

The uniforms are part of the adidas NBA “BIG Logo” Holiday Collection, which includes new warm-up jackets and shooting shirts that feature print graphics inspired by knit holiday sweaters. The warm-up jackets feature team logos on the front chest and BIG team logos on the back, both made of chenille patches.

Honoring the servicemen and women of the Armed Forces, the San Antonio Spurs have unveiled a new military-inspired uniform. The uniforms will be debuted against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, November 13.

The camouflage-patterned uniforms were created to showcase the team’s pride in the city nicknamed ‘Military City USA.’ San Antonio is home to Joint Base San Antonio, a military installation that includes the Army’s Fort Sam Houston, Randolph Air Force Base and Lackland Air Force Base. It’s estimated that more than 300,000 active and retired military and government workers live in San Antonio.

San Antonio’s military uniforms are part of the adidas and NBA Pride Uniform Collection, inspired by each team’s core identity. The green, olive and sand-colored camouflage jerseys feature the iconic Spurs alternate logo on the front with black and silver vertical stripes on the sides. The stripes continue on the shorts and are also branded with the Spurs alternate logo. The Spurs will wear the military uniforms twice during the 2013-14 season.

The game against the Wizards is the first of multiple USAA Salute Night games during the season in which USAA is offering up to a 40% discount on tickets to active military and veterans.
