Bright colors are fairly normal when it comes to running shoes, but it isn’t often that we see bold colors cross over into the world of trail shoes. Generally speaking, the world of trail shoes consists of a lot of natural and earth tone colorways that tend to blend in with the surroundings they are designed to be worn in.

Salomon is taking a different approach on this colorway of the SpeedCross 2 that will be available at Eastbay in early March. Instead of those subtle earthy colors, they’ve covered the SpeedCross 2 in a mix of bold hues, like Tomato Red, Deep Blue and Bolt Blue. The SpeedCross 2 is loaded with technology to back up this bold colorway. Of course Solomon’s Quicklace lacing system is included, but underneath it lays a combination of quick-drying and breathable nylon mesh. Along with the synthetic leather overlays that add a bit of durability, the SpeedCross 2 is also fitted with a rugged toecap to protect against debris and premature wear. The SpeedCross 2 also features the Sensifit design that helped the XA Pro 3D Ultra score a high review. Underneath it all resides a Winter Contagrip rubber outsole that provides traction, even if you have to go through snow, slush and ice.

A Detailed Look at the New Balance 101

words_Nick Engvall

Always near the forefront of the performance running shoes race, New Balance is preparing to release a new colorway of their 101 silhouette. Although the New Balance 101 may be a low-profile and lightweight running shoe, don’t let that make you think it’s not ready to take on any terrain you are willing to take it through.

The New Balance 101 is packed with technology that aims to keep you moving on the trail without interruption from uninvited rocks and debris that always try to come along for the ride. The New Balance 101 features an aggressive outsole and Rock Stop technology, a thin layer of high-durometer EVA or TPU that acts as a protective layer and disperses impact pressure when you come across one of those sharp rocks or other hazards of the trail. Along with Rock Stop reducing pressure, the midsole is comprised of Acteva lightweight-and-durable foam for responsive cushioning. Throughout the upper, a durable and breathable mesh material is used to keep temperatures under control. A reinforced toe guard also adds a bit of protection and durability as well. Finishing off the impressive list of technologies is Sure Lace technology. Sure Lace is a lace design that uses a wave-like pattern that interlocks the laces more securely than standard shoelaces.

The New Balance 101 will be available in February at Eastbay.
