In the 2007 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, Dwight Howard made a disappointing early exit after judges failed to take notice of the creativity put into his famed “Sticker Dunk.” Howard returned to the Dunk Contest the following year, and made sure history didn’t repeat itself. With a little help from friend and teammate Jameer Nelson, Dwight took the court fitted with a Superman emblem t-shirt and cape, and soared through the air for what is now known as the “Superman Dunk.”

Though nitpickers will be quick to tell you that he didn’t actually dunk the ball, that single moment made Dwight the league’s next marketable star, and the “Superman” nickname has stuck with him ever since. So much that Warner Bros. and DC Comics signed an apparel partnership deal with adidas this summer centered around the Orlando Magic center. While clothing and accessories are expected in the near future, the first release from this collaborative effort is the “Superman” version of Dwight’s new adidas Beast sneaker.

Seen in photos below, the “Superman” Beast steers away from the typical royal blue-based Man of Steel tribute shoe, opting for a themed look inspired by Superman’s Fortress of Solitude headquarters. The shoe sports a white and vision blue upper, with crystal graphics seen on the mesh and Sprintskin side panels. Superman’s logo appears on the tongue, as well as the underfoot via translucent outsole. The heel tab inlay reads “Fortress of Solitude,” once again acknowledging the home base of Superman and the overall theme of the shoe.

The “Superman” Beast is available here at Eastbay today in very limited quantities. Be sure to pick up your pair now.

adidas Beast – Dwight Howard x Superman

Back in June, Warner Bros. and DC Comics announced a new partnership agreement with adidas in which the entities would come together for a new Superman-inspired line of merchandise. The line will feature both the heroic Man of Steel and Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic. Howard, whose nickname is Superman, first took the on-court persona of the superhero when he wore a cape for the 2008 NBA Slam Dunk Contest. Part of this new collection will be this extremely limited Superman colorway of Dwight’s new adidas Beast signature shoe, set to arrive here at Eastbay in November.

White patent leather acts as the base of the shoe, while vision blue fills in the Three Stripes, side panels, heel counter and midsole. Comic graphics appear on the medial side panel, while Superman logos are centered on the tongue and heel. Dwight’s signature appears along the upper lace eyelets on the lateral side, while his number “12” appears on the medial side and tongue. A tab on the heel reads “Fortress of Solitude,” the headquarters of Superman himself. Lastly, a translucent outsole reveals a Superman logo graphic on the underside to complete the look.

You can pick up the limited Superman x Dwight Howard adidas Beast at Eastbay on November 1st.

Nike Zoom Huarache Trainer Superheroes Pack

words_Nick Engvall

Three of DC Comics’ oldest superheroes will be forever tied to the sneaker world in the near future. Superman, who originated in 1938, and Green Lantern and Flash, who both originated in 1940, may have already made a name for themselves in the world of comics, but now become enshrined in a different form of pop culture.

The three superheroes are the inspiration behind these upcoming colorways of the Nike Zoom Huarache Trainer. The Superheroes Pack will launch this week with the release of the Flash-inspired red and orange colorway of the Zoom Huarache Trainer, which comes in a mix of leather and neoprene materials and that unforgettable exoskeleton design.

Superman and Green Lantern will get their sneaker fame in the coming months, but we have a preview of the designs below.
