A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… someone created plain, boring white socks. But if we blast into hyperdrive and travel to today, May 4 (better known as Star Wars Day), we’ll find that socks have had quite the evolution. What was once a boring part of your wardrobe has transformed into an important style statement. Eastbay finds your lack of sock swag disturbing so they’re here to help with Stance Star Wars Socks. Following up the Hoth Forum Lo, the latest installment of the ever-expanding Star Wars x adidas Originals collaboration, is the adidas Originals Superstar 2. The timeless shell-toe carries on the successful line of Star Wars inspired designs from adidas Originals.
Inspiration for this camouflage colorway comes from the Rebel Alliance’s Rogue Squadron, remembered in the Star Wars story line for bringing down the Galactic Empire. The colorway is accented in hints of Orange and features the Rebel Alliance logo on the heel, a second on the lower ankle, and “Rogue Squadron” across the tongue just above the adidas Trefoil logo. Images of X-Wing Fighters add the final touches on the tongue, allowing you to show your affiliation in the battle against the Dark Side of The Force.

You would have a difficult time finding a more successful partnership than the one between Star Wars and the team at adidas Originals. The two two companies now have a few years of successful collaborations under their belts, but that doesn’t mean the creativity is slowing down at all. In fact, judging by the arrival of the Star Wars x adidas Originals Forum Lo RS, it’s still going strong.
The latest creation comes in the form of the iconic adidas basketball shoe, the Forum. This low cut version comes in a White, Black and Red colorway withStar Wars detailing. On the heel resides an image of an All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT), from the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi films, that has been given the Three Stripes treatment. Camouflage graphics on the side panel are a nod to the uniforms warn in the Battle of Hoth scene from The Empire Strikes Back. Of course, you won’t want to be fighting in the snow with these limited edition kicks on your feet, but you may spend plenty of time admiring them on your next day snowed in.
Timeless entities from different worlds continue their ongoing partnership with the brand new adidas Originals x Star Wars collection. Since their first collaborative effort in 2007, adidas and Star Wars have managed to provide one of few bridges between fanatics of both sneakers and the popular movie franchise. The tradition continues with new footwear and apparel from the collection available today.
The Force is strong with the Darth Vader-inspired Ultrastar, which features a premium black leather upper with the helmet of the original trilogy’s chief antagonist worked into the shell toe. Red takes care of the inner liner, Three Stripes and laces, which are complemented by gold ‘STAR WARS’ lace jewels. Perhaps a nod to the hip-hop roots of adidas Originals, Run DMC-style Star Wars branding appears on the heel of each shoe.
Accompanying Darth Vader will be Stormtroopers, represented by a white-based colorway of the adidas Originals Superskate. This remix of the Superskate makes use of tonal markings throughout the upper, but gives the shoe plenty of pop with colorful graphic work on the inner liner, tongue, heel and lace tips. Taking care of things below is a translucent outsole, which once again reveals colorful graphics on the underfoot.
The new adidas Originals x Star Wars Collection is available to purchase in limited quantities at Eastbay.
The partnership between adidas Originals and Star Wars is one that makes the sneaker culture great in my opinion. Taking two iconic brands and developing an ongoing relationship that continues to result in impressive creations. With collectors of both sneakers and Star Wars memorabilia seemingly always growing in numbers, this partnership will continue to bring unique designs and inspirations throughout the spring of 2011. Of course the marketing behind the shoes cannot go unmentioned. Snoop Dogg marching Storm Troopers through New York City, and plastic blister pack type packaging that seem more appropriate for the local toy aisle than your closet, has helped make the adidas Originals and Star Wars partnership unforgettable for more than just collectors.
In the spring of 2011 the adidas Originals x Star Wars Collection will make its way to Eastbay in limited quantities. Today’s Eastbay Photo of the Week gives us just a sneak peek at what is to come.
