Soccer Watch: Los Angeles Galaxy Wins MLS Cup

Last month saw the end of the Major League Soccer season with the Los Angeles Galaxy being crowned MLS Cup Champions. Cruising through their season and all through the playoffs, the Galaxy were able to handle the Houston Dynamo 1-0 to take the MLS Cup.

Over 30,000 fans were on hand in Southern California to watch the tightly played match, which ran scoreless well into the second half. The Galaxy were able to take the lead over the Houston Dynamo and never look back in the 72nd minute, when Landon Donovan hooked up with David Beckham and Robbie Keane to put-in the game-changing goal.

The 2011 MLS Cup Championship was the Galaxy’s first since winning back to back cups in 2006 and 2007, while the Houston Dynamo suffered their first-ever MLS Cup loss in franchise history.

Living up to just about everyone’s expectations, the Los Angeles Galaxy have reached the MLS Cup Final and will face the Houston Dynamo later this weekend. Dominating their way onto the MLS’ grandest stage, the Galaxy will put their league-high payroll up against a surging Dynamo squad which many are giving little to no chance.┬áThe Houston Dynamo head into the MLS Cup Finals looking for their third championship in franchise history, after taking it all in their first two seasons in Houston back in 2006-07.

The 2011 MLS Cup Final will take place this Sunday, November 20th at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

Soccer Watch: Galaxy Advances To Western Conference Finals

Continuing their clutch play at the most important time of the season, the Los Angeles Galaxy is now on their way to the MLS Western Conference Finals. Taking on the tough New York Red Bulls, the Galaxy was able to squeak out the victory two goals to one.

The Galaxy was led by Landon Donovan, who converted the go-ahead goal on a penalty kick in the 74th minute. The Galaxy’s first goal was put in by Mike Magee, after he headed in a corner kick from David Beckham. The victory continues the Galaxy’s playoff dominance, who advanced to their third straight appearance in the Conference Finals.

The Los Angeles Galaxy will face Real Salt Lake in the Western Conference Finals, which kicks off this weekend in Los Angeles.

On the other side of things, the Houston Dynamo are set to take on Sporting Kansas City in the Eastern Conference Finals. Taking the semi-finals with a victory over the Philadelphia Union, The Dynamo will be taking on Kansas City looking to return to the MLS Cup for the first time since 2007.

The New York Red Bulls were able to clinch an MLS Cup Playoff spot after taking advantage of an own-goal in the eight minute of last night’s match with the Philadelphia Union. Coming as the lone score of the entire match, the Red Bulls were able to pull-off one of their biggest victories of the season to earn the playoff spot.

The New York Red Bulls are now tied with the Houston Dynamo for the 9th playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Depending on how the Houston Dynamo finish their season, New York is set to play a single elimination road game in the wild card round, versus either the seventh or eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.

Soccer Watch: Dallas Earns Spot in MLS Cup Playoffs

The Dallas FC are on their way to the MLS Cup Playoffs, after earning a victory over the Chicago Fire. Taking the match 2-1, Dallas was led by goals from Jackson and Daniel Cruz. While the victory helped earn Dallas a playoff birth, it also pushed Chicago to the verge of missing the MLS Cup Playoffs. They still have a slight shot though, requiring then to win their last two starts to match Houston and New York with 43 points.

As for the Dallas FC, they earn their playoff spot by controlling most of the match with the Fire. For almost the entire first half, the match was a straight-defensive battle, with Dallas getting their first score of the game on a goal by Jackson in the 41st minute. Dallas made it a 2-0 match in the 2nd half, scoring early on in the 53rd minute on a goal from Daniel Cruz.
