America’s game has always played a key role in the pink initiative. For years, the NFL has used October to raise awareness, starting with special gear. This year’s lineup is its strongest yet. Each year for the past several years Nike Basketball has teamed up with the Kay Yow WBCA Cancer Fund to help raise funds for the foundation that carries on the legendary coach from North Carolina State. Yow’s battle with cancer seemed to be the only thing that could keep her from passing on her knowledge of the game. Over her career she coached her teams to a record of 737-344 and was voted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000. Kay Yow may have lost her battle with cancer early last year but her courage in taking on the disease has and continues to inspire those people whose lives have been affected by cancer in some way.
Nike Basketball will release the Nike Hyperdunk 2010 in a Pinkfire colorway. As pink has become the color strongly associated with raising awareness for breast cancer, this colorway of the Kay Yow WBCA Cancer Fund Nike Hyperdunk 2010 also features the foundations logo on the tongue. Both men’s and women’s sizes will be available and a portion of the sales will go to the Kay Yow Cancer Foundation.
