The upcoming professional basketball season for the NBA is still in question due to the current lockout but, thankfully, for sneaker aficionados and amateur hoopers, basketball shoes will continue on with or without the pros. Nike Basketball has redesigned the popular Zoom Hyperfuse as a new 2011 edition.

The Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011 uses Fuse technology to create a breathable and lightweight upper, combined with Zoom Air cushioning and a phylon midsole, to create a responsive and performance packed shoe. A solid rubber outsole provides durability, while the herringbone traction pattern and forefoot outrigger handle traction duties for those quick cuts to the basket. This particular colorway comes in an “Iguana” finish with Max Orange detailing that gives it a militaristic feel.

With few exception, Nike Basketball shoes tend to evolve every year into lighter and better performing designs. One of last year’s newcomers to Nike Basketball’s roster was the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse. Along with scoring well in the Nike Zoom Hyperfuse Performance Review, the Zoom Hyperfuse became one of the most popular models last season, for both amateurs and professionall hoopers.

The Nike Zoom Hyperfuse 2011, which was introduced last month,¬†aims to raise the standards set by its predecessor with a similar approach. Equipped with a lightweight upper thanks to Fuse technology, and Zoom Air cushioning, the 2011 version seems to be off to a quick first step and it hasn’t even hit the hardwood yet. The three main features, lightweight, breathability, and durability, have things looking good for the coming release which will occur later this month.

Over the next two months, Nike Basketball will officially launch the next generations of their two flagship basketball performance sneakers, the Zoom Hyperdunk 2011 and Zoom Hyperfuse 2011. Both shoes have been created around the concepts of weight reduction, breathability, strength and innovation. The Hyperfuse 2011 features mesh-constructed zones for a fully-ventilated experience, while the Hyperdunk promises a secure ride with the use of Flywire supports and superior explosiveness with dual-Zoom cushioning units.

For a better understanding behind the design of both Nike basketball shoes, we hear from the men responsible for their existence. In this new video interview, Shane Kohatsu (Lead Basketball, Innovation Kitchen) and Leo Chang (Design Director) detail the features of both the Hyperdunk 2011 and Hyperfuse 2011. Chang gives you a feature-by-feature rundown of what exactly makes each shoe a must-have this summer. Check out the clip below.
