The pennant races in Major League Baseball, as you would expect, are becoming quite confrontational, to the point that yesterday the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals cleared the benches and the bullpens as they battle for the top of the National League Central. In the NL East, it hasn’t gotten to bench-clearing brawls quite yet, but the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies will likely go down to the final weeks of the season vying for the top spot in the division, just like the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres will in the NL West.
In the American League, the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins went head to head this week, and with only a game separating the two teams from the top spot in the AL Central. Meanwhile, the Baltimore Orioles haven’t played better baseball all season, and despite having one of the League’s worst records at 39-74, they are now 7-1 under their new manager Buck Showalter.
