adidas, Nike Release Summer Soccer Cleats

adidas, Nike Release Summer Soccer Cleats

words // Tim Dunn

With the ground beginning to thaw and spring just around the corner, things are beginning to heat up for the highly anticipated summer of 2014. To tide us over for the months leading up to Brazil, both adidas and Nike have released some dynamic new colorways for some of their most popular cleats.

The adidas Predator gets a makeover in Running White with accents in Earth Green and Solar Zest. The crisp, white upper provides the basis for a clean, fresh-looking boot. The Solar Zest orange outsole imparts a burst of color that’s just enough to add a contemporary touch to the shoe, while preserving the clean look and preventing it from being too flashy.  Earth Green (brownish, olive-green) stripes and cleat accents round it all off and work surprisingly well with the bright orange.

Next up is the adidas Nitrocharge. Outfitted in the same colors as the Predator above— but in a different arrangement — this edition of the Nitrocharge exudes an active personality, which is what the Nitrocharge was designed for. The olive-hued Earth Green provides the base color, while the Solar Zest outsole and forefoot stripe provide a burst of color. Running White gets the honor of representing the traditional three stripes and also provides some accents on the bottom of the shoe.

Rounding out this adidas collection is the F50 series, which gets outfitted in Glow, Earth Green, and Solar Zest colorway. The Solar Zest outsole pairs with the Glow green upper in a citrusy fusion of football flavor.  The cleat tips and ever-present three stripes are decked out in Earth Green to complete an interesting cleat.

As opposed to adidas, Nike is a little more eclectic with its choice of colorways. The ever-popular Mercurial is the recipient of two looks that are designed to be nods to previous tournament models of the now-iconic boot.

Nike Mercurial Vapor IX Vibrant Yellow/Neo Lime

The first, a Vibrant Yellow/Neo Lime/Metallic Silver/Black scheme, is reminiscent of the popular 2006 model, which was produced for the tournament in Germany. In an additional nod to the 2006 model, the cleats feature “06M” branding on the heel.

The second Mercurial released features a Metallic Mach Purple/Total Orange/Urban Lilac look. This scheme was designed to resemble the Mercurial featured during the 2010 tournament in South Africa, and like the model above, features “10M” branding on the heel as an additional nod to its predecessor.

Next up for Nike is a vibrant new scheme for the CTR360 Maestri III. The cleat is completely covered in Bright Crimson, with the exception of black Swoosh logos and a metallic silver tongue, which come together to result in a striking boot. The CTR series from Nike will soon be replaced by a new series, and as a result, this is the final colorway that will be released for the CTR360.

The Hypervenom series also gets two new colorways. The first is a Vibrant Yellow/Volt Ice/Black scheme. Vibrant Yellow is the base color with Volt Ice functioning as the secondary on the upper. Black on the laces, logos, and outsole provides a bold contrast and creates a look that exudes pure speed.

The second Hypervenom colorway is a decidedly more classic take on the modern boot, featuring black and white to provide a simple, professional look.  Neo Lime accents on the forefoot and Hypervenom branding provide a small burst of color that complements the cleat’s clean design. Where its sibling exudes speed, this Hypervenom colorway screams precision, every step of the way.

Last up, The Nike Tiempo series gets decked out in Total Crimson/Metallic Silver/White. This colorway follows the established Tiempo pattern of dividing the cleats’ colors in half. In this case, Total Crimson (with a white Swoosh) covers the outside and toe sections, and white (with a Total Crimson Swoosh) covers the inner section.  The tongue and rear Tiempo badging are metallic silver and provide a classy spark to what has been a legendary cleat for Nike over the past several years.

The new colorways from adidas and Nike are available in adult and youth, at all price levels of each cleat series, and in both indoor and turf styles.  Matching clothing and equipment for these colorways will also be available.

Launched earlier this year, the Nike Mercurial Vapor IX combines performance innovation and a heritage of lightweight boots for fast players. The sleek design was created for athletes who rely on tight cuts and turns combined with bursts of explosive speed to beat the opposition

The Mercurial Vapor IX is engineered with a new upper to deliver a high level of support and touch. Speed Control texture gives players the confidence to perform at full speed with enhanced friction that combines with a snug and responsive fit. The upper also locks down the foot to prevent unnecessary movement within the cleat.

All Conditions Control (ACC) technology is a special treatment now used on all Nike cleats to ensure a consistent touch whether playing in wet or dry weather.

Twin studs at the back allow for a quick release from the turf, and the asymmetric design of the stud configuration delivers an explosive start. Highly responsive blades also allow for game-altering changes in direction at speed.

Below is a unique, lightweight plate that incorporates two different pieces of glass fiber that increase flexibility and responsiveness, providing energy return in the heat of the game.

If you’re on the hunt for a pair of summer soccer cleats, look no further than this eye-catching new colorway of the Mercurial Vapor IX. The cleats feature a volt to citrus gradient fade on the upper, accented by black branding hits throughout.

These new Nike soccer cleats are available here at Eastbay. Also keep an eye out for something a little ‘darker’ next month…

In 1998, soccer icon Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima (or simply Ronaldo) was the lead athlete for the first ever Mercurial Nike soccer cleat.

Inspired and designed by the player popularly dubbed “El Fenómeno,” the Mercurial was backed by the tagline “Ultralight, so your legs can be as fast as your imagination.” This spoke to Ronaldo’s creativity, speed, skill and instinctive eye for the goal as he helped reignite the Brazilian soccer program.

Ronaldo is closely associated with the original Silver/Yellow-Blue Mercurial he wore in France for the 1998 World Cup. Celebrating the 15th Anniversary of the iconic boot, Nike created a special Mercurial Vapor IX inspired by the original design.

“In the years since the first Mercurial boot was created, modern construction has allowed for a more refined way of making boots. For example, the original version of this boot was constructed of multiple materials stitched together, McCartney elaborated. “This version is a one-piece, seamless upper as per other Nike Vapor Mercurial IX editions.

In addition to rethinking construction, the design team added a modern visual twist to the 2013 version. Yellow from the 1998 cleat is replaced by the brand’s signature Volt hue. Original silver has been updated with a metallic finish.

Just 1,998 pairs of the Mercurial IX Special Edition were produced and they sold out instantly earlier this month. However, we’re providing you with a second chance to get your hands on these elusive cleats.

Inspired by international superstar Cristiano Ronaldo’s love of all things fast, Nike Soccer introduces a new CR7 signature colorway of the Mercurial Vapor IX boot.

Ronaldo’s signature boot has been reworked with a fusion of white and neon orange, with a neon yellow and orange safari print inspired by the print that was first seen on the Mercurial Vapor Superfly II in 2010.

Beyond the design, the boot is equipped with an engineered upper that enhances support and touch, allowing Ronaldo to perform at high levels of speed and skill. The leather-like finish and Nike’s All Conditions Control (ACC) technology also enhance overall performance. The special treatment now used on all Nike boots ensures consistent touch in wet or dry weather conditions.

Horizontal black and neon yellow lines link the shoe to the collection’s overarching inspiration of speed. The “love to win, hate to lose” logo on the heel is a nod to Ronaldo’s inspiration as he explodes past his opponents towards goal.

You can pick up Ronaldo’s latest and several different variations of these Nike soccer shoes today.
