Nike Sportswear follows up Scottie Pippen’s ’96 Olympic kicks with this all new volt-accented colorway of the timeless Air More Uptempo.

Pip’s timeless Nike Basketball shoes arrive just as they did back in ’96 with their bold design and overwhelming Air Max tooling, sporting a new generation colorway as part of NSW’s recently released ‘Volt” Pack. Black handles most of the nubuck and suede upper on them, while volt hits the heel Swoosh and Air Max cushioning below.

Eastbay Memory Lane: Scottie Pippen and the Nike Air More Uptempo Olympics

Eastbay Memory Lane: Scottie Pippen and the Nike Air More Uptempo Olympics

words // Zack Schlemmer

This page will definitely take you back if you were paying attention to Nike Basketball shoes and apparel around the time of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.  The most recognizable and remembered shoe from the ’96 Basketball team is, without a doubt, Scottie Pippen’s Nike Air More Uptempo.  Pippen’s Olympic colorway, complete with his USA Team #8 on the heel, took the bold look of the More Uptempo even further with an even more pronounced color blocking of the giant “AIR” design across the shoe.

Also seen on this page are the Air Much Uptempos, with the same design as the More Uptempo, but without the full Air Max sole.  The rest of the page features classic apparel for the More Uptempos to coincide with USA Olympic colors.  Anybody who studied Eastbay catalogs in 1996 should recall the “Much More Air” t-shirt and “Big Butt” shorts.  Throw in the Much More Air Warm-Ups, and you had a full Olympics inspired outfit.

Be sure to head over to Eastbay to grab soon-to-be-classic USA Team inspired colorways on Nike Basketball shoes like the Hyperdunk and Kobe VII while you still can.

This week’s Eastbay Memory Lane post takes a look into the basketball catalog from 1996. Featuring a handful of Nike Basketball athletes like Penny Hardaway, Jason Kidd, Reggie Miller, Lisa Leslie and of course Scottie Pippen. Of course the Nike Air More Uptempo that recently came back in retro form was one of the highlights of the catalog. However, how many people remember the little brother to the Air More Uptempo, the Air Much Uptempo?

Flipping through a couple more pages would have landed you at another unforgettable sneaker from Nike Basketball, the Zoom Flight 96 most commonly tied  to Jason Kidd. The Nike Air Flight 96, featuring styling similar to the Zoom Flight may also stir some memories with its heel Air unit and Phylon midfoot cushioning, it made its way onto the feet of teams from every level of play from grade school up to the pros.

Check out some of the pages from the 1996 Basketball catalog below.

Nike Air More Uptempo – Black/White

words_Brandon Richard

One of Nike’s pivotal 90s basketball sneakers, the Air More Uptempo, is making a return in its original Black/White colorway. Made famous by Scottie Pippen during the Bulls’ record-setting 1995-1996 NBA season, the shoe sports a black nubuck upper, complete with white accents and trim throughout. Of course, what always made the Air More Uptempo stand out is the large “A-I-R” lettering, spelled out on the side panels of the shoe. Below sits a full-length Air unit and black rubber outsole. Expected to ship a few weeks from now, you can reserve your pair of this classic sneaker at Eastbay today.
