After being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame earlier this month, it’s only right that Deion Sanders’ old signature shoes make a return to retail in some fresh looks for the remainder of summer. Last week, a clean “Freshwater” colorway reminiscent of another original Nike Training athlete made its way to Eastbay. Today, another new style has arrived, evoking memories of the days Prime Time was high-stepping in the Peach State as a young superstar.
The newest Air Diamond Turf, which is similar to the original colorway that re-released last year, features a black and red nubuck upper with white working the strap foundation, heel and inner lining. The top of the strap is done in Varsity Red and sports black Nike Swoosh branding. The Diamond Turf 2010 is embossed on the tongue badge, referring to last year’s re-release when the tongue was slightly modified. All three associated colors take care of the midsole and outsole to finish off the look below.

Last week we took a look back at some of two-sport star Deion Sanders’ best footwear in our Eastbay Memory Lane post. It’s apparent that “Primetime” had a fair share of popular signature models featuring his number and logo over the years. One of the most popular Deion signature models has always been the Air Diamond Turf.
Today the Nike Air Diamond Turf arrives in a new colorway that often landed on Ken Griffey Jr shoes throughout the 90’s. The Freshwater colorway may not be one that the recent Hall of Fame inductee would have ever worn on the field, but there is no doubt the combination of iconic training shoe elements into one design should hit home with many sneaker collectors.

Deion Sanders filled the highlight reels throughout his career with unforgettable interceptions, often followed by even more memorable returns. Aside from some minor detail changes that remove his jersey numbers from this Retro, his sneaker legacy will be passed on to the next generation of collectors.
For those of us that remember seeing “Prime Time,” or if you prefer “Neon Deion,” utilize his speed and quickness on the diamond and the football field, these are unforgettable. Fortunately for the next generation of sneaker collectors, they won’t have to suffer enjoy Must Be the Money like some of us did. Regardless, Deion’s memory as a multi-sport star and in sneaker culture history will always have a place, thanks to the return of the Nike Air Diamond Turf Max from 1996.

Back in the early nineties, two-sport star Deion Sanders used his incredible speed and athleticism to become one of the most loved (and hated) players of all time on both the baseball diamond and the football field. Deion’s flashy play filled the highlight reels with unbelievable kick returns and interceptions as a football player, and amazing catches and stolen bases as a baseball player. “Primetime” needed a shoe that could handle the rigors of both sports, and Nike Training came up with the appropriately named Air Diamond Turf. The Nike Air Diamond Turf has returned in retro form, and since Deion is no longer wearing the number 21 or 24 on the field, the Diamond Turf is also sporting a slightly new look with the year 2010 on the tongue.
