Despite their last minute loss to the Ravens, the Steelers retain the #1 spot in this week’s Power Rankings. With their victory, the Ravens jump 4 spots to #2 and the Jets are up to #3 after another impressive win. The Saints fall to the #4 spot after barely squeaking out a win over the Panthers. The Falcons round out the top 5 after sneaking by the Niners.
The Colts fall six spots after losing to the Jaguars on a 59-yard field goal at the end of regulation, while the Chargers and Jags tie for the biggest jump this week, leaping 7 spots.
The biggest drop was 8 spots for the Bengals losing to the Browns and Seahawks putting up just 3 points, losing to the Rams 20-3. With a 2-2 record this year, the Rams have already topped their win total from last season, when they finished 1-15.
The Bills continue to struggle as they drop to #32 of 32 teams. Look below for the full Week 5 Power Rankings.
Week 3 was an interesting one in the Power Rankings, as the previous top three team (the Saints, Packers and Texans) all lost. Saints kicker Garrett Hartley missed a 29-yard field goal in overtime against the Falcons that would have kept New Orleans at #1. Instead, they drop to #2 and the Steelers, who crushed the Bucs, take the #1 spot this week. The #2-ranked Packers lost to the Bears on Monday Night, dropping them to #5 this week. The #3 ranked Texans fall 7 spots after a bad loss to the Cowboys. The Colts are up a spot to #3 after beating the Broncos and the Falcons jump 5 spots to take the #4 slot.
The Ravens, Jets and Patriots all stay put at 6, 7, and 8 after solid wins. The Bears are up 5 spots after their win over the Pack and the Titans also jump up 5 after an impressive win over Eli Manning and the Giants.
The surprise of the league has to be the 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs, who beat the defending AFC West champion Chargers and blew out the NFC West-favorite 49ers. Last year the Chiefs were 4-12.
The Seahawks are up 6 spots this week after a 27-20 win over the Chargers, thanks to Leon Washington’s two kickoff return touchdowns of 101 and 99 yards, respectively.
The biggest slide in the rankings this week is the Redskins. They fall 9 spots after a loss to the Rams, who I had ranked #30 last week.
Week 2 featured some exciting finishes to intriguing match-ups. The Saints maintain their #1 ranking by beating a pesky 49ers team in overtime on Monday Night Football. The Packers stay at #2 after a blowout over the Bills, and the Texans move up to #3 after a thrilling OT win over a good Redskins squad and stumbles by the Ravens and Patriots. Peyton Manning defeated his younger brother Eli Sunday night, moving the Colts up to the #4 spot. The Steelers round out the Top Five after moving up four spots from #9.
The Jets jump four spots to #11, while the Falcons and Chargers each jump three spots after impressive wins. Carson Palmer and the Bengals are up 6 spots after a win over the Ravens, and the Bears made the biggest jump this week (9 spots) with their 2-0 start.
The Vikings drop 9 spots after starting 0-2 and the Cowboys plummet 13 spots after a poor performance against the Bears. Although the 49ers lost on Monday Night, they gave the defending Super Bowl Champion Saints a scare, which bumps them up 6 spots to #18. See where your team ranks below.
Week 1 was full of excitement as expected, including the Saints’ hard-fought victory over the Vikings on Thursday night, Houston upsetting Indy, a controversial call to give the Bears a win over the Lions, and Seattle’s pounding of the 49ers. The Patriots looked good against the Bengals, and the Pack beat the Eagles, despite Mike Vick looking like the old Mike Vick. The Skins upset the Cowboys for a huge win, and both Monday Night Football games were fairly unexciting, but had huge outcomes. The Ravens held on for a 10-9 win over the Jets in a defensive battle and the Chiefs scored an enormous 21-14 home-opener upset over the Chargers.
The Saints remain at the top after a big win over the Vikes and the Packers move to #2 as the Colts stumbled against the Texans. The Ravens are up 4 spots after a solid win over the Jets, and the Pats are on the rise after beating a tough Bengals squad. The Colts round out the top 5, after dropping 3 spots.
The Texans jump 5 spots to #8 after their upset over the Colts, and the Steelers make the biggest jump (8 spots) as they beat a really good Falcons team, even without Big Ben. The biggest drop was 9 spots, for the Chargers, who lost to the Chiefs in their opener, as well as the 49ers, who got it handed to them by the Seahawks. The Redskins jump up 5 spots after knocking off the Cowboys, and the Chiefs crawl up 8 spots by beating the Chargers. Take a look below for my full Week 2 Power Rankings.
