NCAA Lacrosse Championship TournamentAn often overlooked sport in the US is lacrosse. Last weekend two exciting games took place that should definitely have some more eyes on the sport in the next few days. Cornell took three overtime sessions to defeat Loyola, and Army pulled off what many would consider one of the biggest upsets in history, beating the two-time defending champs and second ranked Syracuse in two overtimes.

Army hasn’t even made the tournament since 2005, and hadn’t won a game in the tournament since 1993. It’s safe to say that they made the most of their tournament invitation this year.

This weekend the NCAA Lacrosse tournament quarterfinals will take place. On Saturday, two schools that have a longstanding rivalry that seems to run through all sports, North Carolina and Duke will take the field in Princeton New Jersey. The winner will take on the winner of the match-up between top ranked Virginia and eighth seeded Stony Brook.

On Sunday, Army will look to continue in their victorious ways while battling a tough opponent in seventh ranked Cornell. If Army can pull off another upset and get past the Big Red of Cornell, it will be the first time they’ve made it to the final four since 1984. The winner will take on the winner of Saturday’s Maryland and Notre Dame match-up.
