Not much changed in the AP College Basketball Poll in the first week. Only the Gonzaga Bulldogs were able to put up an impressive enough outing to make a move. Gonzaga moved from 12th to 11th after two dominating performances in their opening weekend. As most teams seem to start out with a soft schedule, many of the top teams were easy winners. Amongst the top ten teams only the North Carolina Tarheels and Kansas State Wildcats were victorious by less than 15 points, each team defeated their opponent by 14. The “close call” was enough to cost Kansas State its only first place votes however.
Looking forward to this week’s schedule, two games stand out as the first tests of the season. Kansas State will take on Virginia Tech and Florida will take on Ohio State. Both games will take place on Tuesday evening.

It seems like it has been ages since Duke defeated the Butler Bulldogs to win the NCAA National Title in one of the most exciting recent day NCAA Tournament Finals. The excitement that left us wanting more in early April returns this weekend to college basketball arenas around the country. When practices and exhibitions opened up last month with Midnight Madness it gave us a taste of what is to come this weekend.
The preseason AP Poll has the Duke Blue Devils sitting at the top of the Top 25. With Senior Nolan Smith returning from his best year last season averaging over 17 points per game, the Blue Devils will look to the Smith to lead them to back-to-back titles. As the Blue Devils look to add the school’s fifth title to the trophy cabinet and tie in-state rival the North Carolina Tarheels for fourth on the all-time list, they’ll have to do so with Michigan State right on their heels. The two schools will meet on December 1st at Cameron Indoor which will be one of the most anticipated games of the season.
Over half of the top 25 will kickoff Friday, including second ranked Michigan State and third ranked Kansas State. The rest of the schools around the country will continue their season openers throughout the weekend.
