After years of waiting, Under Armour basketball footwear is finally available to the public. The plan was put into action when the brand signed then high school sensation Brandon Jennings in 2008. Buzz for Under Armour Basketball picked up when their shoes were seen on the feet of Jennings during his 1-year stay in Europe and his rookie NBA season in Milwaukee. In August of this year, Under Armour finally announced a fall launch for their basketball line, which also includes a Brandon Jennings signature shoe. Today marks the official launch day of Under Armour Basketball footwear. Let’s take a closer look at some of the models available here at Eastbay.
The Micro G Black Ice is probably the shoe you’ve heard about the most. The first official signature shoe of Milwaukee Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings, the Black Ice was built almost solely to enhance speed. The shoe sports a light perforated leather upper, with synthetic material wrapped around the base. A forefoot cross-strap helps provide lockdown fit, while an internal molded Micro G footbed enhances comfort and cushioning. Jennings’ signature appears on the inner lining of the asymmetrical collar, which provides mobility and increased quickness. Lastly, the outsole features an exclusive “shattered ice” pattern outsole, delivering superior on-court quickness.
What the Black Ice does for speed, the Micro G Fly does for flight. The heavily perforated synthetic base keeps the shoe light, but a molded collar and TPU heel counter keep it stable. To Full-length Micro G cushioning keeps you light on your feet, pads your landing and maintains bounce responsiveness. Traction is enhanced by a translucent rubber outsole.
Looking for a shoe to match your team uniform this year? The Micro G Lite has you covered. Available in a wide variety of colors, the Micro G Lite makes use of a Skeletex upper with lightweight welded overlays for breathability and support. Micro G cushioning and footbed offer comfort and responsiveness, while cut stability is provided by a TPU heel counter and carbon fiber support shank. Once again, a translucent rubber outsole aids traction below.

Under Armour’s basketball collection will arrive at Eastbay in the coming months. Alongside the Under Armour Micro G Lite colorways will be a number of color combinations of the Under Armour Micro G Fly. The Micro G Fly features a broken glass-like pattern over the seamless toe area and a perforated ankle area for breathability. The same Micro G technology is found in this model as it has been across all the Under Armour Basketball styles thus far.
Look for these at Eastbay in early October.
Last week, Under Armour finally announced that they will be releasing their much-anticipated line of basketball shoes this fall. Sole Collector can exclusively confirm that the collection will be available during the second week of October, just in time for the start of the basketball season. You can look for the range of shoes to feature a sleek point-guard friendly look and also Under Armour’s Micro G cushioning. A light and resilient high-rebound foam, Micro G is featured in all four models this fall.
After signing Brandon Jennings two summers ago, just before his stopover in Rome, the brand is finally prepared to launch a full assortment of basketball shoes at retail. Jennings will wear his signature Micro G Black Ice during the upcoming NBA season. The launch will also be supported by a sizable advertising campaign across TV, print and digital mediums.
“This is a much-anticipated and significant milestone for Under Armour as we continue to elevate our presence in the sport of basketball from grassroots to the elite level,” said Gene McCarthy, Senior Vice President, Footwear for Under Armour. “The collection provides a first taste of Under Armour’s commitment to building innovative basketball shoes that are lighter and sleeker and feature advanced technology.”
The Fall lineup will also be seen on the feet of several collegiate and high school basketball programs, including Boston College, University of South Florida, University of Maryland, Texas Tech University, Auburn University, and Winter Park (FL), Lincoln (NY), Boys and Girls (NY), St. Frances (MD) and Melrose (TN) high schools.
