Dwyane Wade, the superstar guard from the Miami Heat, is one of the most aggressive offensive players in the league. The majority of the time, that aggression pays off with a rim-rocking dunk or acrobatic layup; other times, however, it results in a rough spill on the hardwood. Wade’s famous tumbles were even documented in his “Fall Down Seven Times, Stand Up Eight” sneaker commercial. Many basketball fans were left wondering exactly how long Wade’s body would hold up to the physical nature of the NBA game.
If you’ve watched Heat basketball in the last 5 years, there’s a good chance you’ve seen Wade wearing layers of padding beneath his game uniform. That padding, which is called Hexpad, is done by a company named McDavid. As the name suggests, Hexpads feature lightweight hexagonal-shaped padding zones that conform to and move with your body. They are made with compression fabric that holds the pad in place and employ McDavid’s HydraVent hDc moisture management technology. The protective apparel, which McDavid says is worn by an astounding 90% of NBA players, is available in shirts, shorts, pants and accessories.
According to a report from the Associated Press, Dwyane Wade has signed a new multi-year to continue endorsing McDavid’s HexPad performance apparel and sports medicine products. The new agreement will also have Wade – a part of McDavid since 2005 – involved in future product development and design.
