The arrival of Brad Friedel to the Tottenham squad has been highly anticipated. Not only for Friedel’s obvious skill as a goalkeeper, but for the fact that he’s 40 years old, which raised a lot of eyebrows when the announcement was made. Friedel lived up to expectations, stopping over 10 shots on goal before giving up three goals and the eventual loss to the Red Devils of Manchester United. The match marked the 276th consecutive appearance for Friedel.
For Man U, Danny Welbeck, Anderson and Wayne Rooney all put in a goal in the second half of the match in front of the crowd at Old Trafford.
In MLS Action, David Beckham and the LA Galaxy defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 in Los Angeles to further separate themselves from the rest of the Western Conference with a total of 51 points on the season with only four regular season matches remaining.

As if American soccer fans needed more proof that we’re behind the curve when it comes to talented soccer players, the MLS All-Stars lost a disheartening 4-0 match against Manchester United on Wednesday. The MLS squad put together a few decent runs in the first 20 minutes of the match, but a goal from Anderson, followed by Park Ji-Sung just before halftime, was only the beginning of the downfall.
Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck added goals in the second half to make the final 4-0, Manchester United. Adding another blow to the soccer fans of the nation, after the tough loss in the Women’s World Cup.
It leaves the question for many as to why the MLS All-Star game even features an international team. What our your thoughts?

Manchester United is widely considered one of the best soccer teams in the world, so Major League Soccer decided that for this year’s All Star Match, the best players of the MLS would play against Man-U.
The MLS All Stars took the field against Man-U Wednesday evening looking to give a much needed boost to American soccer. After the US exited the World Cup early in the knockout rounds, as is typical, the sport finds that critics are harsh and relentless without a winning team.
Redemption however, was not the song that was played on Wednesday, despite the excitement level from the sold out crowd that showed up at Houston’s Reliant Stadium to watch the match. Popular MLS All Star team players such as Landon Donavon and Juan Pablo Angel couldn’t seem to get anything started offensively against Man-U. It was essentially over quickly for the MLS team, as Manchester United’s Federico Macheda put The Red Devils up a goal in under 30 seconds. He then added a second goal to give Man-U a 2-0 advantage just 11 minutes later.
The MLS team would score first in the second half to bring the difference to just one goal, but Manchester United would add three more goals before the last minute of the match when Dwayne De Rosario added the MLS team’s final goal.
Even without some of their top players competing, Manchester United gave proof that the MLS has a long way to go before teams will compare to teams in the Premier League.

When it was announced last year that Christiano Ronaldo would be leaving Manchester United, it might not have shocked fans but it definitely left them wondering who would fill the empty void. Less than a year later, the Professional Footballers’ Association seems to have finally acknowledged what fans have been seeing all year, Wayne Rooney has filled that void and then some. Rooney has been named the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year.
The Manchester United star has been a key in the England national team’s path to the 2010 World Cup. So far this season, the 24 year old striker has 34 goals for United, 8 for the England national team. Rooney’s goal scoring is up from 12 last year, despite battling injuries late in the season.
With one match left in the English Premier League, Rooney has recently battled through an ankle injury, and is healing from a groin injury, but fans have been concerned if he would be ready to play at 100% when the 2010 World Cup begins. Rooney answered the concerns earlier this week.
“The groin will be fine for the World Cup, there are no worries about that,” he said. “I’m hoping to play for United in the last game of the season.”
