Before LeBron James exploded onto the scene, it was Ken Griffey Jr. that went by the nickname of “The Chosen One.” In fact, the future baseball Hall of Famer owns a 120′ Intermarine yacht called The Chosen One, which he keeps on the west coast of Florida.

Inspired by The Chosen One and the vacation atmosphere it calls home, Nike Sportswear has released Griffey’s Air Max 360 Swingman shoe in a new tropical colorway. The shoe features a white leather and turquoise Hyperfuse upper with volt accents and crimson hits on the inner lining, pull-tab and Max Air unit. Special graphics have also been added to the tongue and insoles.

The 2012 MLB All Star festivities in Kansas City kick off tonight with the Home Run Derby.  In this edition of Eastbay Memory Lane we go back to 2001 and take a look at three time derby champion Ken Griffey Jr and his sixth signature model from Nike Baseball, the Zoom G6.  Griffey won the Home Run Derby in 1994, 1998 and 1999.  By 2001 Griffey was back in his hometown of Cincinnati playing for the Reds and although he had suffered a string of injuries, was still one of the most popular players in the Major League Baseball.

Here we see the Zoom G6 Metal in slick black , silver and patent leather colorways, as well as two lower tier TPU cleated versions.  Also available from this page were the nicely designed Zoom Prowess cleats.  Be sure to hit Eastbay for all Griffey models from Nike currently available.
