Nike Drops Black History Month Shoe Collection

Nike Drops Black History Month Shoe Collection

Nike-BHM-2016-Eastbay

On January 18, Nike is releasing some Black History Month-themed signature shoes from the game’s best athletes. I’m going to break down each shoe from this powerful ‘Black History Month’ pack.

Kyrie 2

The wildly popular Kyrie 2 has been changing the game — seriously. And the most dynamic point guard in the game just got another unique colorway for his new shoe. Fit your feet in festive African colors, and light up the game in traditional African style with the Nike Kyrie 2 ‘BHM’ on Monday.

LeBron 13

In the wide circle of sneakerheads, the LeBron 13 is widely hyped or widely disliked. While the naysayers like the overall thought and design put into the shoe, they believe the colors aren’t bright enough. However, people in favor of this colorway say it’s a unique twist on tradition, and shouldn’t be knocked for staying true to African culture. After all, it is a Black History Month shoe. What’s your opinion? Let us know in the comments below.

Kobe 11

For the flashiest take on Nike’s ‘BHM’ offerings, look no further than the Kobe 11s. With a bright blue toe that morphs into a multicolor design as it reaches the heel and white midsole and Swoosh for contrast, these shoes stand out and leave a message.

KD 8

KD’s take on Black History Month is a bold one — dark on top, and bright on the bottom. Traditional African tribal colors are placed on the swoosh, shoestrings, and outer tongue. The midsole is white with a colorful egg speckled print, the air sole unit is clear blue, and the sole is icy translucent rubber.
Remember, all of the shoes will be available January 18 at 10 am ET. The Kobe 11s are available in Men’s sizes only, but the other three are offered in Kid’s sizes. Which of these signature shoes in the Black History Month pack will most likely be added to your collection? Let us know below.

Nike Drops Holiday Shoe Pack: Fire & Ice

Nike Drops Holiday Shoe Pack: Fire & Ice

Nike Holiday

On December 26, Nike is releasing some holiday-themed signature shoes from your favorite athletes: LeBron, Kobe, Kyrie, and KD. I’m going to break down each shoe from this year’s pack: Fire & Ice.

Kyrie 2 Holiday

Kyrie 2: Ready For The Yeti?

The first-ever Kyrie 2, the ‘Effect’, recently made headlines as a great innovation in gear for guards. The day after Christmas, Nike is releasing its second Kyrie 2. It features a set of teeth on the mid-strap, an icy sole, and an aqua blue forefoot, as the shoe pays tribute to the abominable snowman. Watch out, this folklore phenomenon is coming for your feet soon.

Lebron 13 Holiday

LeBron 13: Walking In A Winter Wonderland

At this time of year, fierce and frigid temperatures pulsate throughout the Cleveland area. Between heavy precipitation, tough winds, and a seemingly-permanent layer of ice across the streets, the Midwest is brutal — but beautiful — in winter. That’s the story behind this icy blue shoe, and you can get it the day after Christmas.

Kobe X Elite Holiday

Kobe X Elite Low: Five Golden Rings

Kobe may be retiring, but his shoe game is on fire, metaphorically, of course. The forefoot is emblazoned with fiery Flyknit, while the ankle/heel features five golden rings that represent his outstanding on-court achievements. Nike recently noted that it’s indeed releasing the Kobe 11, so if this Christmas shoe is the last Kobe X, we have to give Nike props for making it go down in flames (in a good way).

KD 8 Holiday

KD 8: A Little Naughty, A Little Nice

On the outside-facing part of the shoe, there’s a calm, milky white tone. In contrast, the inside of the shoe features a hot-coal design. This is perhaps inspired by how peerless the winter months are, but how warm and cozy staying in the comfort of your own home can be. At least that’s how I interpreted this design, but maybe my love for hot cocoa and fireplaces makes me biased. Regardless of interpretation, these are pretty unique, and the best part is that they’re dropping in Boys’ sizes, too.

Remember, all of these Fire & Ice shoes (with the exception of the Kobe) will be available in Men’s and Grade School sizes. All four drop December 26 at 10 am ET — sure to make your holiday happy.

adidas Wall 2 ‘Away’ – Available Now

Many were skeptical about John Wall’s second signature shoe because of the wild success of the Wall 1s — the old “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” argument. However, skeptics: it pleases us to say that they do not disappoint! Not only does a full-length adiprene+ cushioning system ensure great control and stability on-court, it’s street-smart and stylish. I’m excited to see more colors of the Wall 2 in the future.

Nike CJ3 Flyweave Trainer ‘Bamboo’ – Available Now

For those who aren’t a fan of the Detroit Lions, Megatron’s newest colorway, the CJ3 Flyweave Trainer ‘Bamboo’, has no signs of lions, (or tigers or bears.) Nor does the shoe have even a trace of blue; Shades of forest green dominate the upper, while earthy brown toes and a digi-camo swoosh make this trainer quite possibly the most original colorway we’ve ever seen.

Men’s $159.99

We’ll give you the lowdown on the prices and sizes, break down the history of the shoe, and give you the scoop on their newest tech features. Check back every week for the hottest releases. If it’s hyped, it’s here. You can check out the full list of releases on Eastbay’s Release Calendar. Here’s what you have to look forward to:

Under Armour ClutchFit Drive 2 – Saturday, Oct. 31 at 10 am ET

The newest of many ClutchFit Drive colors is a Charlotte Hornets-themed one, yet pairs with its Halloween release date well. Black on black with dark aqua mixed throughout the forefoot gives it a ghoulish, dusk-like feel. Whether you wear these on the court, around your neighborhood, or for secret midnight sacrifices, they’re perfect for any occasion. Men’s $124.99

Nike LeBron 13 ‘Away’ – Available Now

King James’ opening night sneakers are labeled ‘Away’ because he started the season in Chicago vs. the Bulls — hence the mostly-red color with black accents throughout. The 13 has been a huge hit among sneakerheads, especially the placement of the Hex-Zoom units, but the icing on the cake is the icy-clear outsole. You can rock it on-court or around town on Friday. Men’s $199.99, Boys’ $159.99

Nike KD 8 ‘Road Game’ – Available Now

Inspired by the Thunder’s road game colors, this KD 8 is making it rain in style points. The blue lagoon fade, reflective black features, and flash of bright citrus give the shoe a warm, underwater aura. It’s not a traditional Halloween colorway, but then again, greatness knows no boundaries. You’ll feel right at home in this ‘Road Game’ shoe. Men’s $179.99

Nike Kobe X Elite Low ‘Draft Pick’ – Available Now

This colorway is pretty intrinsic to Kobe, who has played his entire career for the Lakers. Although he was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets, he was quickly traded three weeks later, thanks in part to Jerry West — the inspiration behind the shoe’s nickname, and a mentor of Kobe’s. You can grab this modern-day Lakers colorway on Friday. Men’s $199.99

Nike Kobe 10 Elite Low

adidas ‘Night of the Ballin’ Dead’ Pack – Saturday, Oct. 31 at 10 am ET

adidas D Lillard 1 ‘Ballin’ Dead’ – Men’s $104.99, Wall 2 ‘Ballin’ Dead’ – Grade School Boys’ $89.99, Crazy 8 ‘Ballin’ Dead’ – Men’s $109.99, Rose 773 4 ‘Ballin’ Dead’ – Men’s $109.99

These zombie-themed adidas shoes are freakishly cool and festively appropriate, and all have their own original nuances. For instance, the Lillard 1 significantly features the zombie-ghost green, whereas the Crazy 8 is more cartoonish and shows guts, (is that intestine?). The Wall 2, available in grade school sizing only, is probably the most decorative, displaying flashes of electric current patterns and a midnight sky silhouette. Meanwhile, the Rose 773 is all business and has a more serious, dark black-themed tone. One thing all these undead kicks have in common? They’re sure to bring your hoops game and your style to life this Halloween.
