With London 2012 in full swing, ASICS steps up to the plate with another USA-inspired runner that joins the “Red, White & Blur” GEL-Blur 33 2.0. Getting the call for this round is the GEL-Kayano 18, the 18th version of the brand’s classic running series. The lightweight runner sports an open-mesh upper that offers breathability for enhanced foot cooling. Tech features include Personal Heel Fit (PHF) memory foam for a personalized fit, ComforDry lining and Biomorphic stretch material to reduce buckling. Supporting your run below is a Solyte midsole, a GEL Cushioning System, DuoMax support in the midfoot, DuraSponge in the forefoot and an Impact Guidance System (I.G.S.) to enhance the foot’s natural gait. ASICS High Abrasion Rubber (AHAR) is located in the heel and increases durability.
This “USA” version of the GEL-Kayano 18 features a red, white and blue mesh build with synthetic overlays throughout. Stars and Stripes detailing fills in the tiger stripes along the side panels, while minimal gold hits appear on the tongue branding and ghillie loop. Grey subtly jumps into the mix, most notably on the medial midsole, which sits atop a red, white and blue rubber outsole.
Still plenty of action left from London, so show your national pride by picking up these patriotic ASICS running shoes today.

Few sneaker series reach an 18th installment, so if you’re looking for running shoes that deliver what they promise, looking toward ASICS’ GEL-Kayano runners is a safe bet. The GEL-Kayano-18 sheds weight from its predecessor, weighing in at just 11.5 ounces. Even with the decrease in weight, the model maintains the classic ride, comfort and stability that ASICS running shoes are known for.
An open hole mesh offers enhanced breathability, while the sock liner is made from an antibacterial material that not only reduces foot odor and moisture, but provides additional cushioning. Personal Heel Fit (PHF) is a two-layer memory foam lining in the heel collar that helps create a personalized fit. Biomorphic Fit stretch material is strategically placed on the upper to reduce buckling and irritation.
Shock absorption is accounted for by the placement of GEL cushioning in the rear foot and forefoot. A Solyte midsole delivers ultra-lightweight cushioning. Guidance Line is a vertical flex groove component of I.G.S. and is employed in the forefoot to improve gait efficiency. Located in the medial mid foot is a DuoMax support system, which is a dual-density material designed to reduce excess pronation. Space Trusstic System in the bottom of the midsole is a gender-specific midfoot unit that controls midsole deformation and allows natural foot movement while stabilizing the shoe. ASICS High Abrasion Rubber (AHAR) on the heel provides increased durability and DuraSponge in the forefoot delivers cushioning, responsiveness and flexibility.
