Eastbay Memory Lane: Get Out There – May 2000

With the football season coming soon, it makes sense for this version of Eastbay Memory Lane to go back a decade to check out the May 2000 “Get Out There” catalog. In the 10 years since this catalog, cleated footwear has come a long, long way. They are more light weight, more stable and much more flashy with tons of different colors and materials. This particular football themed cover features the Nike Air Zoom Apocalypse in Black and Silver.

Flipping to Page 3 you’ll see the cover cleat along with 3 Eastbay Exclusive colors. You’ll also see Heisman Trophy winner and former Oakland Raider Charles Woodson next to the Nike Super Speed D Low & 3/4 which Eastbay had 6 Exclusive colors of. It’s a reoccurring theme for Eastbay to have Exclusive colors as the Zoom Twitch D came in 3 like the Apocalypse.

Page 7 was the Reebok Cleat page that “The Freak” Jevon Kearse was featured below the Reebok Pro Shroud DMX cleat. Eastbay had 7 colors of this cleat with 5 being Exclusive. Kearse won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award and was a Reebok front man for a some years after. Also featured on page 7 was stud WR Joey Galloway by the Reebok Slipper D II cleat. Again Eastbay had 6 Exclusives.

The Jordan gear took up page 17. Take a look at those bucket hats, the TWO3 Stivale boot, five variations of the AJ XV and the Jordan V in Black/Silver. This was before the Retro craze really exploded.

Last but not least is Page 41, the Race Day footwear. I’ll just let the page speak for itself but look at all that Neon.

Jordan Spizike Black/New Blue/White/Infrared

words_Jordan Hagedorn

The Infrared colorway of the Jordan Spizike will hit Eastbay.com tonight at 11pm CST, Midnight EST. It is the fourth colorway of the year for the Spizike model that was originally released in 2006. For those of you that aren’t familiar with the Spizike shoe, it’s a combination of legendary Nike ad man Mars Blackmon’s favorite Air Jordans (AJ 3, 4, 5, 6, 20). The Mars Blackmon character was played by acclaimed film maker Spike Lee hence the name Spizike. This particular color scheme is inspired by the Infrared Air Jordan VI originally released in the early 1990s.

You can see the countdown for the Infrared Jordan Spizike at Eastbay here.

The Dwyane Wade “W3LCOME HOME” colorway of the Air Jordan 2010 will be available at eastbay.com this weekend.

Back in July of 2009, Nike announced that Wade would make the jump from Converse to Jordan. Ever since then, the footwear world has been excited to see how Jordan Brand would utilize one of the best players in the league. Almost four months after Wade hopped on board with the Jumpman, he and Michael himself unveiled the signature Air Jordan 2010.

A while back the “W3LCOME HOME” version of the 2010 surfaced on the web with speculation that it was specifically for D Wade. All suspicion has been put aside as it is now confirmed that the White/Red AJ 2010 will hit this weekend.

The Air Jordan 2010 White/Black/Varsity Red has a mostly white upper with the Varsity Red heel and toe. It has a black and white midsole, black ankle collar, black Jumpman logo on the tongue and a translucent red outsole.

Back in 2006 Sole Collector featured Wade on the cover of Issue 13 of their magazine. He was fresh off an NBA Title and was also named the NBA Finals MVP. He was with Converse at the time but the Sole Collector team photographed him admiring a pair of original Carmine Air Jordan VI.

Here is Wade with his Finals MVP trophy checking out the historic Carmines from 1991.

Until the Wade 2010 hits this weekend, check out the Black/Red White launch colorway of the Air Jordan 2010.

Eastbay Combine Videos – Round 2 Draft Picks

words_Jordan Hagedorn

After the NFL Draft we had a look at the Eastbay Combine Videos of the First Round Picks. Now we’ll dive into the Round 2 picks. Kicking off the 2nd round were the previously 1-15 St. Louis Rams. They decided to go with University of Indiana Offensive Lineman Roger Saffold. He will be a nice addition to try to protect #1 overall pick Sam Bradford.

Check out Roger Saffold’s NFL Combine Eastbay Video.

With pick 51 overall the Minnesota Vikings took Stanford Running Back and 2009 Hesiman Trophy Runner-Up Toby Gerhart. Gerhart lost the Heisman Trophy by only 28 points (the smallest margin of victory in the history of the award). In his senior season Toby rushed 343 times for 1,871 yards and 27 touchdowns. He will team with stud RB Adrian Peterson to man the Viking backfield this season.

Check out Toby Gerhart’s NFL Combine Eastbay Video.

With the next pick, the Steelers took Defensive End Jason Worilds who played college ball for the Virginia Tech Hokies. Worilds brings a ton of speed and quickness to the table for the Steelers. They will look to develop him into a strong, disruptive pass rusher in Pittsburgh.

Check out Jason Worilds NFL Combine Eastbay Video.

At 53 overall the New England Patriots selected Jermaine Cunningham from Florida. Although he played behind a lot of great talent for the Gators, Bill Belichick took him for his versatility and for the possibility of joining the Patriots LB rotation.
