In two seasons at the University of Wake Forest, Chris Paul led the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2004. As a freshman that season, Paul was named the ACC Rookie of the Year, Third Team All-ACC, an All-American Honorable Mention and National Freshman of the Year by various publications. He averaged 14.8 points, 5.9 assists and broke five Wake Forest freshman records; three-point percentage, free throws, free throw percentage, assists and steals.
Paul also earned ACC All-Defensive Team honors during his time at Wake and was among the Consensus First Team All-Americans in his sophomore year. By the time he declared for the 2005 NBA Draft, he had finished near the top of almost every offensive category at Wake Forest.
As a tribute to Chris Paul’s collegiate career and as a celebration of March Madness, the Jordan Brand plans to issue this Wake Forest inspired colorway of the CP3.V. The black-based shoe is accented by metallic gold throughout, leaving a translucent outsole to finish off the look below.
A week ago, the Jordan Brand celebrated Chris Paul’s Los Angeles arrival with a special launch event for the Jordan CP3.V. Paul himself started things off by escorting media through an installation that featured his new signature Jordan shoes, and rooms modeled after the basketball court in the backyard of his childhood home, his high school gym and the area at his college alma mater, Wake Forest. Each room represented definitive moments in Chris’ life that helped mold him into the player that he is today. Like the installation, the CP3.V features several details that tie back to Paul’s life. From a traction pattern made to aid CP’s quickness, which he developed early as a child, to his high school career through 61 cut outs on the shoe to represent the 61 points he scored in honor of his late grandfather. Wake Forest was also saluted with a requested Black/Vegas Gold colorway that will be released in March for the NCAA Tournament.
Following the media tour of the installation, Chris Paul and Jordan CP3.V designer, Tom Luedecke sat down for a Q&A with the media in attendance.
The Jordan CP3.V was custom built for Chris Paul and his unique high-speed style of play and for players looking to be a step quicker than the competition. Designed with the most lightweight, supportive technology available, the next generation Flywire construction has made the Jordan CP3.V the lightest CP3 model to date. Innovative Podulon technology and the Phylon midsole combined with a Cushlon upper gives players an impossibly quick response when flying down the court.
The first colorway of the CP3.V is available to purchase at Eastbay now. Additionally, a White/Black-Cement Grey colorway will release in February 2012, with a third colorway, Black/Vegas Gold releasing in March 2012.
