MLB Watch: Paul Konerko Reaches 2,000 Hits
Paul Konerko gets the 2,000th hit of his career, an RBI single in the eighth inning.
words // Nick Engvall
This week, Paul Konerko, first baseman and team captain of the Chicago White Sox, reached the monumental feat of 2,000 hits. Konerko became the 266th player in Major League Baseball history to reach the elusive number. The five-time All-Star is one of very few players to stick with a team throughout the majority of his career. After arriving in Chicago in 1999, he helped lead the team to a World Series title in 2005, and has been a fan favorite ever since. Unfortunately for the Sox, although Konerko’s eighth inning single tied the game at four, the Angels spoiled the occasion by winning it in the nineth.
Across the country in Washington, D.C., the Nationals hosted the Arizona Diamondbacks, despite the earthquake that rocked the area earlier in the day. Apparently the Nationals’ batting was shaken up by Mother Nature, as they couldn’t manage to score any runs for Jordan Zimmerman. Despite the loss, fans seemed to make the most of the days events, as seen in the photo below.
