October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it has become a tradition in professional sports to don pink in support of the cause. From honoring breast cancer survivors before games to wearing pink during them, the movement is growing at a rapid pace. At Eastbay, we pride ourselves on having the largest selection around, so you can show your support in the sizes and styles you need.
Football
America’s game has always played a key role in the pink initiative. For years, the NFL has used October to raise awareness, starting with special gear. This year’s lineup is its strongest yet. From game-day essentials like Nike Vapor Jet 3.0 gloves to flashy accessories like Wilson NFL Pink Ribbon hand warmers and Nike football towels, you can add purpose to every snap while still wearing the latest and greatest gear.

Basketball
No single piece of basketball gear means more than the shoes. The kicks you wear don’t just represent your game, they show off your unique style too. With the pink colorways of top shoes like the Nike Zoom Solider IX and Hyperdunk 2015, you can show your support while dropping jaws with your play and your swag.

Women’s Training
You can add pink to your wardrobe on more than just game day. Whether going through drills at practice or dominating workouts in the gym, we have top athletic shoes in stylish pink colorways. Looking for the Nike Air Max 2015 or adidas Energy Boost 2 ESM? How about the Nike Flyknit Zoom Agility or the Nike Free 5.0 2015? We’ve got them. It’s never been easier to lace up with the power of pink.

Running
For the runner looking to add purpose to every mile, ASICS has a pink GT-1000 that benefits breast cancer. An elite running shoe in a cool color that raises awareness for a great cause — it doesn’t get much better than that.

While NFL action is always entertaining, the biggest story on the field in Week 5 was the acknowledgement of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each year, the NFL allows players, personnel and officials to be outfitted in pink gear to bring attention to the cause. Additionally, the NFL highlights its own ‘Crucial Catch’ campaign, which is focused on the importance of annual screenings.
This past weekend, we saw cleats, gloves, towels, wristbands, whistles, mouthguards another other accessories from virtually every sporting goods brand. Some players used the platform to pay homage to loved ones who have battled or been lost to the disease. Buffalo Bills quarterback EJ Manuel’s mother Jackie battled breast cancer much of last year and is currently in remission. To salute the most important woman in his life, EJ wrote ‘Love Mom’ on his pink-based Nike Alpha Pro cleats. Similarly, San Francisco 49ers receiver Kyle Williams created a custom pair of Zoom Vapor Carbon Fly 2 cleats in tribute to his grandmother, who he lost to breast cancer while he was in high school.
To kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Denver Broncos edged out the Dallas Cowboys in a historic 99-point game; the Cleveland Browns won their third straight game after trading Trent Richardson on Thursday night; Cincinnati handed the New England Patriots their first loss of the season; the Green Bay Packers easily handled a Detroit Lions team missing Calvin Johnson; Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts picked up another big win after knocking off the Seattle Seahawks at home; the Kansas City Chiefs became the second team in NFL history to start 5-0 after having the worst record in the previous season; San Francisco continued to get back on track with a dominant 34-3 home win over the Houston Texans; and the New York Jets surprised the Atlanta Falcons on the road to send the birds to a surprising 1-4 start.
Have a look at some of the Breast Cancer Awareness football cleats and gear that hit the field during Week 5 in today’s NFL Watch.

During the month of October, the NFL observes Breast Cancer Awareness Month by allowing players, coaching staffs and officials to wear pink gear on the field. Some of the game-worn items are then auctioned off for charity to support the American Cancer Society and related team charities. The league also continues efforts with their Crucial Catch campaign, which focuses on the importance of annual screenings, especially for women over the age of 40.
Notable results from the first week of Breast Cancer Awareness Month included the St. Louis Rams handing the Arizona Cardinals their first loss of the season; Andrew Luck leading the Indianapolis Colts to an improbable and emotional comeback victory over the Green Bay Packers; the Atlanta Falcons staying unbeaten with a comeback victory of their own against the Washington Redskins; the Pittsburgh Steelers squeaking by the in-state rival Philadelphia Eagles; Tom Brady besting Peyton Manning in a dominant New England Patriots win over the Denver Broncos; and the Houston Texans moving to 5-0 after topping the New York Jets on Monday Night Football.

The NFL once again reminds everybody that there are issues bigger than the game of football.

As they have for the past two seasons, the NFL observed the start of Breast Cancer Awareness month by having players, coaches and referees wear pink accented uniforms, clothing, footwear and accessories. Part of their alignment with the American Cancer Society, the NFL’s Crucial Catch campaign is focused on the importance of annual screenings, especially for women who are over the age of 40. To benefit Crucial Catch, the league will round up all pink apparel and accessories and auction it off with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society and related team charities.
In early Sunday action, the Cincinnati Bengals spoiled the Buffalo Bills’ perfect season with a surprising 23-20 victory at home. Detroit maintained their perfect record by handing the Dallas Cowboys a heartbreaking 34-30 loss after Dallas led by 14 points in the fourth quarter. The Houston Texans continued their mission to finally win the AFC South with a big 17-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Perhaps the most surprising result of the day happened in Philadelphia, where fans watched the “Dream Team” blow a 20-point lead to lose 24-23 to the San Francisco 49ers.
