Robert K. Cheruiyot has one the 2010 Boston Marathon. Runners are probably thinking, “again?” No, not again. This Robert K. Cheruiyot is not the same as the man with the same name who is ten years is senior. This Robert K. Cheruiyot is also a Kenyan marathon runner. This Robert K. Cheruiyot is often referred to as “The Younger” in the running world. The thing that differentiates this Robert K. Cheruiyot from his elder statesmen is 82 seconds.

Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot set the new record for the Boston Marathon today with a time of 2:05:52. Surpassing the time of Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot, another Kenyan runner who had previously held the best time of 2:07:14. The elder Cheruiyot had previously won the race four times but this year was for “The Younger”.

Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot beat his time at last year’s Boston Marathon by over five seconds to become the winner of the 114th running of the event. Cheruiyot did so wearing the Nike Zoom Streak III.

On the women’s side of the race, Teyba Erkesso barely pulled off the victory. Erkesso, an Ethiopian runner, won the women’s division by only three seconds over Tatyana Pushkareva of Russia. Erkesso, who also set a state and event record earlier this year at the Houston Marathon with a time of 2:23:53, finished with a time of 2:26:11 towin this year’s Boston Marathon.

Teyba Erkesso was wearing the Nike Katana Racer at this year’s event.

Congratulations to Teyba Erkesso and Robert Cheruiyot on winning the event, and to the rest of the qualifiers at this historic running of the Boston Marathon.
