Go The Distance: The Top 5 Running Shoes

Go The Distance: The Top 5 Running Shoes

If there is one thing HOKA knows, it’s how to make a running shoe. While they offer multiple silhouettes and styles, the ONE Rocket X is consistently a favorite among all types of runners. Built using an EVA midsole, the shoe helps you make the most of every step by being extra responsive and propelling you forward. The upper is made up of breathable mesh to deliver optimal airflow so that your feet don’t overheat on longer runs. Within the shoe, there is a 1mm carbon fiber plate that adds more stability.

Tackle every run in comfort and style with the ASICS GEL-Nimbus 23. It is engineered to fit your foot like a glove. TRUSSTIC technology is what gives the shoe that structured stability. The shoe features a combination of ultra-soft GEL technology and a FlyteFoam midsole. Together they give you the cushioning and energy return that will keep you running longer than you thought possible. The outsole is made up of AHARLITE, which gives the shoe optimal grip and traction while also increasing its durability.

The Saucony Guide 14 has everything you look for in a running shoe. The synthetic mesh upper will keep your foot dry, so you don’t feel like you’re running in a puddle of your own sweat after a couple miles. The upper also has a 3D-engineered fascia which is crucial for providing stability. The PWRRUN foam midsole provides all the cushioning you could ever want and more so that you feel like you’re running on air.

There is a reason many professional runners place their trust in Brooks: they make an amazing running shoe. The Levitate 4 is 20% lighter than the previous iteration, making sure there is as little weighing you down as possible. The Fit Knit upper has a close-to-foot fit that is light, soft, and allows maximum breathability. Brooks DNA AMP midsole technology puts a spring in each step you take so you get speedy, efficient energy return.

There may be no better feeling during a run than when that runner’s high kicks in. You begin to feel invincible, like you could go forever. The Nike ZoomX Invincible Run Flyknit is built to help you power through those miles with ZoomX foam in the midsole that gives back as much energy as you put in. The Flyknit upper allows your foot to breathe freely while staying comfortable. There is also padding around the collar that provides extra ankle support.

Live At The 2018 Ballislife All-American Game

The 2018 Ballislife All-American Game is finally in the books and it definitely did not disappoint. The best high school basketball players in the nation put on a ridiculous show in LA. Jordan McCabe kicked it off by taking home the 3-Point Contest title after catching fire in the first round. Mac McClung, perhaps the most famous high school dunker in the country, did what he does best and took home the Dunk Contest championship.

The game was just as good as the pre-game festivities, and the two teams needed overtime to settle the score. Team Future came through with a 146-143 victory over Team Elite, led by Co-MVP Moses Brown who dropped 22 points and 10 rebounds. Emmitt Williams was named Co-MVP with 31 and 10 for Team Elite. If you couldn’t make it out for the game, don’t worry. We got you covered. You can watch highlights from the game below or  re-watch the livestream of the entire game on YouTube:

But Eastbay was behind the scenes all weekend long. For a backstage pass to all the action in Cali, read below:

Friday, May 4

The Ballislife All-American Game is just around the corner, but the athletes had one final practice session before showtime. This wasn’t just a normal practice session, though. The athletes talked with media members and participated in events with Youtubers and popular content creators like Jesser The Lazer, Filayyyy, and more. Check out Jesser giving his best effort at stopping Mac McClung:

It’s wasn’t all media and games. When players of this caliber get together, you know there’s going to be some competition. A few guys played King Of The Court, while others worked on their game at shooting and passing stations throughout the gym. A mini-dunk contest showcased a preview of the gravity-defying dunks we’ll see tomorrow. After a few hours in the gym, the guys headed back to the hotel for some relaxation, and surprise, more competition. A player’s lounge offered Fortnite battles and more to cap off the final day before Game Day.

Thursday, May 3

The Ballislife All-American Game Weekend kicked off with a bang on Thursday as the players arrived, got outfitted with fresh threads and custom kicks, and got a practice session in. The Ballislife All-Americans each got a locker full of Ballislife and Eastbay gear, highlighted by their gameday jerseys and sneakers customized by opckicks. Unlike most All-American games, each athlete got to pick which shoe they wanted to wear for the game. Check out some of the images:

A Behind The Scenes Look Into The New Balance CompV1 Baseball Cleats

A Behind The Scenes Look Into The New Balance CompV1 Baseball Cleats

New Balance CompV1 1

Over the years baseball cleats have truly evolved. Whether it has been the move from rubber spikes to plastic spikes, or metal cleats being built stronger while getting lighter, these changes have been applauded by athletes.

As companies continue to create new cleats and innovative tech features for them, New Balance has taken a step ahead of the rest.

With the launch of the CompV1, New Balance is the first to offer a cleat with a mix of glass fiber reinforced TPU and standard TPU spikes. To go along with this, a number of pros will sport the CompV1 during the 2018 season. But a pair of stars got early access to the shoe during the 2017 playoffs. Athletes Fransisco Lindor and Jose Altuve were the in-game wear-testers of the new cleat, helping the product team get to the final version to bring to market.

This cleat is way more than just your average molded spike, so in order to take a deeper dive into the shoe, we chatted with the New Balance baseball product team.

How The Cleat Came To Life

New Balance CompV1

A lot of information was brought to the attention of the New Balance baseball team over the past few years. In their research three big things stood out:

  1. The fact that high school athletes are playing more and more baseball games today —some even 100 plus games a year. This led parents to be a lot more thoughtful about the health of their teenagers’ feet. In response, they built a shoe that has metal spike performance with the comfort of a TPU spike.
  2. Turf baseball fields are popping up all over the country, and many of these fields don’t allow you to wear metal cleats on them. This makes an alternative option so important. In response New Balance designed a cleat that works on dirt and turf fields.
  3. Most professionals today are wearing plastic cleats, and these are the guys that kids are watching play every night. In response the CompV1 was created to give the comfort and performance the pros get.

These three things gave New Balance a nudge to create something new. They were looking to create something different in a stale market that was producing only metal and TPU cleats. In response to this the product team decided to build something they could tell a story around, and this turned out to be the fiberglass TPU cleat known as the CompV1.
