Arizona’s Derrick Williams may only be a sophomore but there is no question that he leads the charge for the Wildcats. The Southern California native averaged more than double the points of his closest teammate this year. At 6 foot, 8 inches and 240 pounds, he’s a post-up threat with quickness that most big men can’t keep up with. To throw another difficulty at opponents, Williams, although he doesn’t shoot near as frequently from outside, is deadly from behind the 3-point line, shooting 58% on the season.

In the first two games of the NCAA Tournament he has proven why he is one of the top prospects in the upcoming NBA Draft. The 2011 PAC-10 Player of the Year hit a 3-pointer late in the game and then came up with a huge block in what would have been the game-tying shot. In Arizona’s 2nd game of the tournament Williams again came to the rescue of the Wildcats. He scored an unbelievable shot as he was fouled with just 10 seconds remaining and then put in the go ahead point with a free throw to beat Texas.

Williams scored a career high 32 as the Arizona Wildcats knocked off the defending champion Duke Blue Devils on Thursday giving them their first Elite 8 birth since 2005, and bringing one step closer to the school’s 2nd national title.
