High School Elite: 2016 UA All-America Game

Eastbay Under Armour All-America Game

The day after New Year’s, more than 90 of the country’s most talented high school football players faced off in the Under Armour All-America Game. Originally founded in 2008, the game includes the best high school athletes, as chosen by ESPN Recruiting, from around the country to meet in the annual game in Orlando. It gives the players a chance to travel, meet other elite athletes, and pad their highlight reels. In previous years, the game has played host to some incredibly talented phenoms: Julio Jones, Amari Cooper, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Trent Richardson, and AJ Green.

This year, Team Highlight, coached by Herm Edwards, routed Steve Mariucci’s Team Armour, 27-0. Team Highlight got off to a 10-0 start just before the half, when an impromptu fourth-down run by punter Dominic Maggio kept its final two-minute drive alive. From there, a ludicrous, one-handed TD grab by Dionte Mullins capped off the drive for a 17-0 lead heading into the break. Halfway through the fourth quarter, Mooch’s Team Armour tried to mount a comeback with a momentous 51-yard catch by Tino Ellis, however, an interception only two plays later abruptly ended the drive. From there, Big Herm’s team never looked back.
