To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year, adidas has provided Derrick Rose with this special green-based makeup of the adidas adiZero Rose 1.5. With the Irish-Green taking center stage, they are constructed in a combination of green suede and SprintSkin on the lateral side. Bright green is also a part of the look, working on the magic eye tongue graphic, upper eyelets and adidas branding throughout.
Additionally, white finishes off the look on the toecap, outsole and heel signature. Topping them off, the insoles feature a four leaf clover commemorating the date Derrick Rose was drafted by the Chicago Bulls.
Look for this special makeup of the adiZero Rose 1.5 on the feet of D-Rose in a St. Patrick’s Day battle versus the New Jersey Nets. You can also expect them to be available from Eastbay later this month in limited quantities.
Fitting for an MVP-worthy NBA season, adidas has introduced another Derrick Rose signature shoe for the All-Star point guard to wear during the second half of the season. Rose is set to debut the adiZero Rose 1.5 in this Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game in Los Angles. Prior to seeing Derrick shred defenses in the 1.5, you can grab a pair for yourself at Eastbay.
The adiZero Rose 1.5 is said to be lighter and more supportive than its predecessor, the adiZero Rose. The shoe features SprintSkin construction on the upper, which is engineered to provide optimum reinforcement, superior breathability and increased durability. Three SprintSkin-paneled zones have been incorporated into the design, each representing his brothers Reggie, Allan and Dwayne.
Engineered to easily handle the fit, torsion and stability, the Sprint Frame combines the heel counter and shank plate into a single nylon chassis. Below, a PureMotion midsole keeps the shoe lightweight and responsive, while Cilia herringbone provides multi-directional traction.

In early December, you were given a sneak peek at a St. Patrick’s Day-themed shoe via Eastbay’s Photo of the Week. The picture showed a clover-designed insole that displayed four different numbers on each leaf. Understanding the importance of those numbers was the key to figuring out exactly whose St. Patrick’s Day shoe we were looking at.
Each number on the insole represented part of one of the most important dates in recent NBA history: June 26, 2008 – the day Derrick Martell Rose was selected #1 overall by his hometown Chicago Bulls in the NBA Draft. Since being chosen, Rose has launched an all-out assault on opposing point guards. Using his blinding speed and springboard hops, he’s a highlight waiting to happen on a nightly basis.
Don’t peg Rose as just a web clip sensation; he’s legitimately one of the best and most poised players in the NBA. Despite major injuries suffered by Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah, Rose has led the Bulls to their best 40-game start since the Jordan Era. His MVP level of play has his friends over at adidas Basketball rolling out multiple Rose signature shoes this year, the latest being the upcoming adiZero Rose 1.5.
Slated to be Rose’s go-to shoe for the second half of the season, here’s a look at the adiZero Rose 1.5 that Derrick will wear against the New Jersey Nets on St. Patrick’s Day. The shoe features a dark green SprintSkin-based upper with a white leather toebox. A brighter shade of green, identified as “Intense,” offers color pop with a contrast stitch and markings on the tongue and heel. The shoe is finished with a PureMotion podded white rubber outsole.
The special St. Patrick’s Day markings are what truly put the shoe over the top. The tongue sports an intense green ‘Magic Eye’ graphic, inspired by Derrick’s “Poohdini” nickname, with a 4-leaf clover and Rose’s signature blended into the design. The previously mentioned draft year clover is visible on the insole, while his signature is also lasered into the heel.
Derrick is expected to debut the adiZero Rose 1.5 during the second half of the 2011 NBA All-Star Game. The St. Patrick’s Day colorway will be available at Eastbay on March 15th.
Derrick Rose’s signature model from adidas Basketball, the adiZero Rose, seems to have found a following that adidas Basketball has been searching for. The adiZero Rose received high marks in our recent Performance Review and as could be expected adidas has an updated version ready to take on the second half of the season for Derrick Rose as he leads the Chicago Bulls into the playoffs.
We won’t see the adiZero Rose 1.5 become available until early next year but that doesn’t mean we can’t drool over it now. The Rose 1.5 features enhanced breathability thanks to Sprint Skin technology. As we saw earlier in our Eastbay Photo of the Week, it also uses the company’s PureMotion Pods. The tongue subtly displays Derrick’s name as well as his initials “dR” blended nicely into the design. Noticeably different in the 1.5 is the ankle area, which will likely help reduce the weight of the adiZero Rose 1.5 while traction and stability from Torsion technology and PureMotion Pods stays the same as the adidas adiZero Rose.
