The Triple Black adiPower Howard features a Sprintskin and synthetic upper with tonal detailing on the 3-Stripes, Dwight’s signature on the tongue and numbers above the toebox. Black also works the midsole, which houses dark grey Twist cushioning windows and sits atop a black rubber outsole to finish off the look below. Stop by Eastbay to pick up a pair today.
This week, adidas and Dwight Howard have officially introduced the adiPower Howard, the third signature adidas basketball shoes for the five-time NBA All Star and three-time Defensive Player of the Year.
The adiPower Howard makes use of a lightweight SprintSkin-constructed upper, which was introduced to the line on last year’s Superbeast. The material increases the strength of the silhouette while reducing weight. Z-Torsion technology in the sole enhances on-court stability.
Design cues include Dwight’s number “12” on the outside ankle support area. Inspired by the Orlando Magic jersey, the 3-Stripes are broken into separate pin lines. Dwight’s signature appears at the top of the tongue and the numbers “1” and “2” are placed on the base of the tongue on the right and left shoe respectively. Printed on the insoles of the shoe is a graphic of Dwight’s famous grin from the 2007 Dunk Contest “Sticker Dunk.”
The adiPower Howard is available in an Orlando Magic “home” colorway at Eastbay now.
The upcoming NBA season figures to be the most pivotal in the career of Dwight Howard, as it will most likely determine where he will play the remainder of his prime years. With those kinds of decisions looming, the lockout is giving the Orlando Magic center a little extra time to formally introduce the world to his third official signature shoe, the adidas adiPower Howard. The new shoe is touted as his fastest and strongest model to date, retaining the lightweight SprintSkin construction and Z-Torsion technology that were introduced on last year’s Superbeast.
Like we’ve seen with Josh Smith and league MVP Derrick Rose, Dwight recently took time to give a personal review of his new adidas basketball shoes. Of course, Dwight does his review in a way that only he can. Check it out below and look for the adiPower Howard in Orlando colors to hit Eastbay this week.
There’s a general thought that big men just aren’t marketable enough to sell basketball shoes. Few can identify with the needs of a 7-footer in terms of performance footwear, and the shoes are often thought to be a little too bulky to succeed in a minimalist footwear era. However, adidas has taken an entirely different approach with Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard’s signature line and we’re really starting to see it pay off.
Last year, adidas Basketball turned heads with the introduction of the Superbeast, a lightweight SprintSkin-constructed sneaker that maintains stability for individuals who play a “bigger” game. Dwight plays the 5, but his athleticism and movements are comparable to smaller wing players, and the Superbeast perfectly suited his game.
This season, the Magic Beast will be laced with the adiPower Howard, an adidas basketball shoe with a silhouette clearly inspired by the Superbeast. The adiPower Howard also features a SprintSkin and synthetic build with mesh windows strategically placed for ventilation in key zones. An injected EVA midsole provides long-term, lightweight cushioning. Z-Torsion allows for natural motion, while also providing additional support and stability. Completing the task below is a Cilia traction rubber outsole.
The adiPower Howard is available in several team colorways at Eastbay today.
