As one of the lightest soccer cleats ever created, the adidas F50 adiZero has separated itself from the competition. Of course, it helps when you have a player like Lionel Messi wearing a unique chameleon colorway, but even the standard-issue colorways of the latest version of the adidas F50 adiZero are nothing short of jaw-dropping.

This week’s Eastbay Photo of the Week takes another look at one of the recently available colorways. The black, white and electricity version couldn’t have a better color name. The adidas F50 adiZero colorway is electric with its bright neon accent color. While the colorway itself may be impressive, the F50 adiZero has the performance to back up its loud appearance.

Both a leather and synthetic version of the F50 adiZero are now available. With the synthetic version weighing in at just 5.8 ounces and the leather version just a bit heavier at an even 6 ounces, the adidas F50 adiZero is all about being lightweight and fast. So fast, in fact, you may want to keep an eye out for it on an upcoming Eastbay catalog cover.

The adidas F50 adiZero has been one of the most popular soccer cleats throughout our Soccer Watch coverage. Although the synthetic Chameleon colored finish worn by Lionel Messi is probably the most popular, this upcoming colorway has potential to be popular as well. This combination of Black, White and Electricity is one that would be typically seen on a adidas Originals shoe.

If you’re a fan of the adidas F50 adiZero, then the first thing you will notice about this upcoming leather version is the change in the stitching and asymmetrical lacing system that gives it a much larger kicking area. A Traxion outsole and lightweight EVA insole help keep the next version of the F50 true to the direction of the adiZero line: lightweight and fast.

Lionel Messi’s Chameleon Purple adidas F50 adiZero

Lionel Messi photo via YahooVery few people can keep up with the speed of Argentina’s Lionel Messi, and even fewer soccer cleats. For the World Cup this year, Lionel Messi is wearing the Chameleon Purple colorway of the adidas F50 adiZero. The F50 adiZero is the lightest soccer cleat ever made at just under 6 ounces.

The design team at adidas was able to do this through the combination of new technologies. Sprint Frame technology is used in the inner shell to give the F50 structure and stability for high speeds and fast cutting and directional changes. On the outer portion of the upper is where adidas has placed Sprint Skin, a single layer synthetic “second skin” that reduces weight and provides the ultimate in ball control thanks to adidas’ Grip’n Groove technology. Although the weight reduction of the upper will make it easier to maintain blazing speed, you’ll need some serious traction to get you up to speed. This is where the newly designed Traxion studs from adidas get to do their job. Traxion studs are shaped to provide maximum acceleration and the fastest turning capabilities.

All of these technologies add up to the only shoe that can keep up with Lionel Messi without slowing him down. Messi’s unbelievable combination of quickness and flawless footwork also make him the perfect candidate to wear the bold color changing Chameleon Purple, White and Electricity version of the adidas F50 adiZero. Judging by the excitement he has brought to the 2010 World Cup thus far, electricity seems like a very fitting color name for a man that seems to electrify crowds with his play.
