Basketball is back. Down in Orlando, Florida, 22 teams are vying to solidify their place in the playoffs before making a push to what will go down as the most unique Finals ever. This season has been full of twists and turns, but one thing remains constant. Giannis Antetokounmpo is incredible, and Milwaukee is an outstanding team. Somehow, Giannis, the reigning MVP, has managed to be even better this season, and he’s hungry to lead Milwaukee to its second-ever championship.

Basketball will undoubtedly look different when play resumes in late July, and players will have to adjust to new living situations, pregame rituals, and court set-ups. On top of all of that, Giannis will be adjusting to a new shoe. The Nike Freak 2 will be launching on July 25, and while in normal times that would mean waiting until next season to debut the shoe, in this crazy world, Giannis will have the chance to show it off in the upcoming playoffs.

The Nike design team wanted the Freak 2 to be for every type of player: guard, wing, or big men. They accomplished this by shifting the Zoom Air from the heel to the forefoot and adding even more cushioning. With both Zoom Air and cushioning, the energy and power are harnessed with every move you make and returned right back, so you can go harder, longer.

To increase stability in the Freak 2, a molded, durable TPU piece on the side of the upper. This helps support and contain your foot through all motions such as spin moves and euro-steps. In addition to the added support, designers decided to split the outsole of the shoe in two. This keeps the shoe light and flexible, so it doesn’t feel like you’re running up and down the court with bricks on your feet.

Coming off a highly successful signature shoe launch with the Freak 1, it was always going to be a challenge to top. However, Nike, like Giannis, somehow came back even stronger with the Freak 2. Make sure to visit on July 28 to snag a pair for yourself.
