A Bengals win on Monday Night Football would have made this Player of the Week vote a little interesting, considering wide receiver Terrell Owens almost single-handedly won the game for them. However, it’s a member of the cross-town rival Cleveland Browns that is taking home the honors this week. Running through Patriots defenders with his bruising style, Peyton Hillis racked up 184 yards on 29 carries and added 2 touchdown runs. On the back of Hillis, the Browns shocked the football world, thumping the Patriots by a score of 34-14.
The key to beating the New England Patriots is keeping Tom Brady off the field. With Hillis’ efficient running on Sunday, the Browns were able to do just that, winning the time of possession battle 38 minutes to 22 minutes. Peyton sniffed out the endzone twice, including a dagger 35-yard run with 4 minutes to play in the 4th quarter. He also added three catches for a total of 36 yards.
In the Browns’ last two games, they’ve beaten the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots by a score of 64-31. They will now stay home to play another top tier NFL team on Sunday, the New York Jets. Can Hillis find holes in that stingy New York defense?
