Last week, Kentucky’s Mike Hartline put up big passing numbers in a dramatic come-from-behind victory to nab Eastbay’s Player of the Week. This week, we’re sticking with the quarterback position, and naming Nebraska’s Taylor Martinez our Week 8 recipient. In an epic Big 12 showdown against 14th ranked Oklahoma State, Martinez gained 435 total yards and passed for 5 touchdowns to give Nebraska the win.

Finding his team trailing late in the first half, Martinez marched the Huskers down the field and completed a 9-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandon Kinnie to re-gain the lead with 55 second left to play. Though the game was close, Martinez and the Huskers never surrendered the lead. The freshman QB tossed two more touchdowns in the second half, bringing his total to 5 on the day. He also added 112 yards on the ground, averaging 5.9 per carry en route to a 51-41 victory over the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

The win helped Nebraska gain 2 spots in the BCS rankings, moving them to number 14. Things don’t get any easier for them this weekend, as they host a 6th ranked Missouri team that just upset the Oklahoma Sooners.
