Week 12: NFL Player of the Week - Tom Brady

On paper, the Thanksgiving Day match-up between the New England Patriots and Detroit Lions looked like a lopsided affair. However, after one half of play, the Lions held a lead and had limited Tom Brady to 0 touchdown passes. Then the two-time Super Bowl MVP showed us exactly why you can never count him out. Brady shined in the second half, throwing for tremendous accuracy and tossing four touchdown passes, earning himself Week 12 NFL Player of the Week honors.

When Brady enters his zone, he’s almost impossible to stop. The Lions started off the second half well, once again holding the New England offense in check. However, after Lions quarterback Shaun Hill threw an interception on the ensuing possession, the Patriots went on a touchdown streak. Brady started off the aerial assault when he hit receiver Wes Welker with a 5-yard touchdown pass. Next Pats possession, Brady found a wide-open Deion Branch, who abused Lions cornerback Alphonso Smith on his way to a 79-yard score. The same two receivers were on the other end of Brady touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, making four on the day. New England would tack on another rushing touchdown afterward, scoring on their fifth straight possession of the second half.

One of the more interesting facts about this game is that outside of the Patriots, the Lions were the only team Brady had never thrown a touchdown pass against. With the 4 TD passes, Brady moved past Boomer Esiason on the All-Time Touchdown Passing list with 248 for his 10-year career. He completed 21 of 27 passes with no interceptions, netting him his second perfect passing rating of 158.3 for the second time in his career.

Was Brady your man this week? Dwayne Bowe and Peyton Hillis certainly made things interesting. Let us know how you feel about the selection below.
