Lightweight performance has been the focus in recent years for the Nike Basketball line of Kobe shoes. Each year a new standard is set for the shoes of the future Hall-of-Famer. Soon, the Kobe signature line will take its next step as Kobe Bryant will begin wearing the Nike Zoom Kobe VI during games later this month.

After a shoe like the Nike Zoom Kobe V, the team at Nike Basketball has set quite a standard for an ultra-lightweight performance basketball shoe. When starting with a shoe that is so light every little bit of weight that can be saved in the design process counts big in the ultimate result. For the Zoom Kobe VI the toe cap overlay and side panel have been reduced to a minimum and in place of the extra material that existed on the Kobe V, a one piece panel takes its place. Beneath the spray painted on Swoosh and the Black Mamba inspired skin-like texture Flywire remains a key in keeping the new Zoom Kobe VI as one of the lightest basketball sneakers.

Today’s wallpaper gives an up close look at the spray painted on Swoosh from the January release featuring White, Neutral Grey, Concord and Black. A rarity for Nike, can you recall any other shoes in which the Swoosh was applied in a similar way?
