Looking to change the game, footwear and apparel brand Under Armour launched a strong basketball campaign for the first time ever this fall, led by Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks and his Micro G Black Ice signature shoe. After nearly two years of keeping fans of Brandon’s game waiting for the official launch, this past October finally marked the first stage of the much anticipated basketball category’s entry into the footwear market.
“I just felt like we should take our time. There was no rush,” Jennings explained to Sole Collector at the brand’s unveiling party in New York City. “Everybody was waiting for it, and we had Nike nervous, and they didn’t know when were going to come out with what, so it was just patience. We had patience and we have the right shoe, we have the right development, and everything was right about the shoe.”
The Black Ice, named after Jennings’ favorite car freshener, features a low to the ground feel thanks to its Micro G high-rebound foam cushioning platform, and was developed to enhance his speed.
Thus far, we’ve seen colorways that correspond with his Milwaukee Bucks uniforms, like the home White/ Black/Red version and an away Black/ Forest Green/ Red makeup. However, two new colorways are dropping, and we’ll have them here at Eastbay in the coming weeks.
The first new look we see is the “Trick or Treat” colorway that was made for Brandon to celebrate Halloween. The shoe features a perforated suede upper, patent leather toe and Black Ice graphic-laden forefoot strap. Familiar festive colors of black and blaze orange can be seen throughout, offering a loud contrast and hitting the laces, crosshair logo on the heel, Brandon’s signature and the translucent outsole.
Next up may be the “cleanest” look we’ve seen to date. White synthetic materials on the upper are accented by a candy red forefoot cross-strap and matching detailing on the tongue, heel branding and Jennings signature.
Both styles officially release the first week of January, but you can reserve your pair today.
