Right now the tennis world is focused on Paris, France right now for the French Open. The top tennis players of the world have made the trip to Roland Garros to play on the clay. In the early matches on the men’s side of the tournament, there have been no major upsets. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray cruised through early matches. While American Andy Roddick came within a couple of points from a very early exit.

On the women’s side of the tournament, defending champ, Svetlana Kuznetsova made quick work of her first opponent, Sorana Cirstea, with a 6-3, 6-1 win.  The biggest surprise of the tournament thus far, last year’s runner up Dinara Safina, was upset by Japan’s Kimiko Date Krumm in a first round match. American’s Serena and Venus Williams both cruised through their first round matches.

Probably the most exciting news from early in the tournament is the return of Justine Henin. Henin won her first match at Roland Garros since 2007, where she won the tournament. In her return from retirement, she looks to add a fifth French Open title to her collection.
