In the United States the sport of soccer seems to come up against some consistent road bumps on its journey to main stream popularity. However, if you’ve seen or attended any of the recent Major League Soccer matches, then you would probably agree it’s pretty easy to get hooked into the excitement that the players and more importantly their fans bring to each and every match.
This weekend FC Dallas surprised MLS fans by beating the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-0, sending superstar David Beckham and 2010 MLS Golden Boot winner Landon Donovan home for an early winter break. FC was led by midfielder David Ferreira as they have been all season. Ferreira scored in the 25th minute and that’s really all FC Dallas needed to clinch the Western Conference Title.
In the Eastern Conference, after upsetting the New York Red Bulls, the San Jose Earthquake took on the Colorado Rapids. The Rapids proved to be to tough on the defensive side for San Jose, shutting down their offense almost completely. Kosuke Kimura of Colorado scored just before the half in Saturday’s game to seal the victory for the Rapids.
