Charlie Davies led the way for DC as they battled for a playoff spot.

words // Luis Sanchez

In one of the better match-ups this past week in the MLS, we saw DC United knock off the great Chivas USA with a great performance from one of their young stars. Moving back into the playoff picture, the DC United were led by Charlie Davies, who put in three goals with the help of three assists from Chris Pontius. The two stars were running things most of the game for the DC United, until Pontius suffered an injury late in the game that required he be taken off the field in a stretcher.

The loss hurts Chivas USA’s chance at a playoff spot, currently holding a 7-11-10 record. The DC United still has some playoff hope, currently holding a 8-7-10 record to maintain the 10th and final playoff spot in front of New York. The DC United look to continue their playoff run this weekend, taking on Seattle tomorrow. Chivas will look to rebound after being shut out in their last three match-ups, taking on Chicago this Saturday.
