Maybe it was some sort of Player of the Week jinx on LeBron or something but there are not too many people that would have guessed that the Los Angeles Clippers at 12-24 coming into Wednesday, would be the team to end the Miami Heat’s 9 game winning streak. Of course the exception to that is the Clippers and their fans who have seen their share of ups and downs. This year the high points now include victories over San Antonio and Miami, two of the NBA’s best teams.
A quick glance at the stat sheet and it would seem that the Heat were up to their usual ways. Dwyane Wade scored 31. Chris Bosh scored 26 and grabbed 13 boards. LeBron added another 27. The rest of the supporting cast seemed to be absent though.
The Clippers started out the game by kicking any welcome mat for the Heat aside and scoring 44 points in the first quarter. The Clippers shot 50% from the field led by rookie Blake Griffin who continued his pre-dunk contest exhibition on his way to his 30th double-double of the season with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Eric Gordon scored 26 and Baron Davis added 20 points in the victory.
In other action the Magic, who were also riding a 9 game winning streak, saw their first loss of 2011 despite Gilbert Arenas’ impressive footwear choice.
