The Celtics have owned the Knicks for the last few years, but with new faces now making the Big Apple home, the Knicks are prepared to buck that trend. Unfortunately, Monday wasn’t the night for them to do it.
Newcomers Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony led the way with Melo dropping in 22 points and Billups with 21, but the Knicks offense never meshed down the stretch. Though the battle was hard fought, elbows to the face of Melo and Ray Allen left scars and stitches to prove it, the Knicks gave up a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter behind 24 points from Kevin Garnett and 21 from Paul Pierce.
With the win, the Celtics move to 50-19 with the Chicago Bulls, who demolished the Sacramento Kings 132-92. The Bulls were led by Derrick Rose with 18 points and eight assists, and had an unbelievable eight players score in double figures.
