Back in 1997 the Air Max Uptempo could be seen on the feet of players like the Chicago Bulls‘ Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman. Just like they were on court, the two seemed to rock the Air Max Uptempo in a way that paralleled their substantially different personalities. Pippen, kept a low profile, and seemed to let his game speak for itself with about 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. Rodman on the other hand, crashed the boards emphatically grabbing 15 or so per game, all the while keeping fans and the league guessing as to what color his hair would be. Both had significantly different approaches to the game –and to life for that matter– but the third version of the Air Max Uptempo handled the footwear duties for both of these stars for a good portion of the season.

The Nike Air Max Uptempo 97 returns in retro form next week in a original colorway featuring White, Black and College Navy. With a full length Max Air sole and the BRS 1000 carbon rubber outsole, these may be retros but they’ll perform on a level that will have you wanting to hit the hardwood in them.
