The pinnacle of the proud Miami Dolphins franchise is the 1972 season, when the team became the first and only in NFL history to finish the regular season and playoffs with an undefeated record. Miami entered Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs a long way from that undefeated mark; in fact, they were winless through seven games this season. Looking to avoid making the other side of history, the Dolphins played their most complete game of the season against the Chiefs and emerged victorious for the first this year.
Miami quarterback Matt Moore led the way, completing 17 of his 23 passes for 244 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Reggie Bush continued to turn his season around, racking up 92 yards on 13 carries and punching in a touchdown. Brandon Marshall led all receivers with 106 yards on 8 catches, including a 14-yard touchdown reception. The Dolphins’ defense posted three shutout quarters, helping nail the door shut on a 31-3 win at Arrowhead Stadium.
Also on Sunday, the New York Jets returned to form with a dominant 27-11 victory over the Buffalo Bills; the Dallas Cowboys held off the Seattle Seahawks for a 23-13 win in Dallas; Julio Jones’ career day lifted the Atlanta Falcons over the still winless Indianapolis Colts 31-7; New Orleans evened up the season series with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after picking up a 27-16 victory; the Houston Texans extended their division lead after beating the Cleveland Browns
