Wild Card weekend in the NFL truly lived up to its name, with three of the four games on schedule ending in thrilling fashion. The veteran Baltimore Ravens bullied the Kansas City Chiefs 30-7 in the weekend’s only blowout. In other action, the Jets got over the proverbial Peyton Manning hump when Mark Sanchez led a final-minute comeback drive, leaving Nick Folk to kick a 32-yard game winner. Also, the Green Bay Packers upset the Eagles in Philadelphia, staving off another Michael Vick comeback attempt when Tramon Williams intercepted a potential game-winning pass.
However, the story of the weekend was the Seattle Seahawks, who scored an unlikely victory over the defending champion New Orleans Saints after finishing the regular season with just a 7-9 record. The key moment in the game came right after the Saints scored a touchdown to climb within four points with just over four minutes left to play. On a 2nd and 10 play, with the ‘Hawks looking to milk a little clock, Marshawn Lynch was handed the ball and began what is being called one of the greatest runs in NFL history.
Emerging from a pile of would-be tacklers, Lynch looked like a man possessed as he shed defender after defender, even tossing Saints cornerback Tracy Porter to the ground by using a stiff-arm. After dodging a few more desperate tackle attempts, Lynch fell into the endzone backwards for a game-winning 67-yard touchdown.
