Monday night’s matchup between the Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers featured two backup quarterbacks due to injury, but only one of them actually looked the part. Instead, second year quarterback Colin Kaepernick played like a star, guiding the NFC West leading Niners to a dominant victory with playoff implications.
Replacing Alex Smith, Kaepernick passed for 243 yards and two touchdowns in his first career start. Kendall Hunter also ran for a 14-yard touch as San Francisco jumped out to a big lead by scoring on each of its first four possessions. Chicago failed to muster up any momentum and dropped the contest by a score of 32-7.
Not to be forgotten is linebacker Aldon Smith, who muscled his way to an astounding 5.5 sacks on the night. With that performance, Smith now leads the NFL with 15 total this season.
Other notable Week 11 results included the Atlanta Falcons moving to 9-1 with a comeback win over the Arizona Cardinals; Josh Freeman and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers staying in the playoff discussion by storming back against the Carolina Panthers; the Green Bay Packers taking the top spot in the NFC North after holding off the Detroit Lions; Matt Schaub passing for more than 500 yards in an unexpected shootout win over the Jacksonville Jaguars; Robert Griffin III recording a perfect passer rating in a division win over the Philadelphia Eagles; the Denver Broncos taking control of the AFC West by completing the season sweep of the San Diego Chargers; Tom Brady and the New England Patriots blasting the Indianapolis Colts 59-24; and the Baltimore Ravens squeaking by the Pittsburgh Steelers in their usual tough division battle on Sunday night.
