Week 2 of the NFL season is perhaps the most important of the year. Teams who got off to great starts look to continue their momentum, while others who stumbled out of the block look to avoid a 0-2 hole. What does avoiding that 0-2 start mean for teams? Statistically speaking, teams that start 2-0 make the playoffs 64 percent of the time; 1-1 starts have resulted in playoff appearances 40 percent of the time; and teams that go winless through the first two games only make the playoffs 13 percent of the time. The importance of a strong start can’t be taken lightly.
The woes of Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings continued as they fell to the Miami Dolphins 14-0. Another preseason Super Bowl favorite, the Dallas Cowboys, also fell to 0-2 after losing to the undefeated Chicago Bears. The New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals and the San Diego Chargers all picked up big week 2 wins after disappointing starts to the season.
Also remaining undefeated after two weeks of play are the Pittsburgh Steelers, whose defense terrorized the Tennessee offense en route to a 19-11 win. Joining the Steelers are the surprising Kansas City Chiefs, who maintained a perfect record with a comeback win against the Cleveland Browns. The records of the Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers also stayed without blemish.
