Just winners of 8 games in their last three seasons, the Detroit Lions appear to have finally turned the corner in becoming a respectable NFL franchise once again. Pitted against the 2010 AFC West Champion Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, the Lions put on one of the best performances in franchise history with a lopsided 48-3 victory. The 45-point margin is the largest in the history of the organization.
Detroit quarterback Matt Stafford continued his hot start, throwing four touchdowns on the day, including two more to wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Running backs Jahvid Best and Keiland Williams each scored touchdowns on the ground, while a swarming defensive effort frustrated Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel the entire game, picking him off three times. Through two weeks of play, the Lions have scored the second most points in the NFL and have also given up the second least.
In other early Sunday action, the Buffalo Bills used a big second half comeback effort to erase a 21-3 halftime deficit and beat the Oakland Raiders by a score of 38-35. The New Orleans Saints dominated the Chicago Bears 30-13 behind three Drew Brees touchdown passes. With performances completely opposite of last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers shut out the Seattle Seahawks 24-0, while the Baltimore Ravens fell to the Tennessee Titans 26-13.
