After another trying season that saw the team end the year with a 22-44 record, the New Jersey Nets have officially relocated to Brooklyn, where they’ll tip off the 2012-2013 season playing in the brand new $1 billion dollar Barclays Center arena. Earlier this week, the Brooklyn Nets held a media event to unveil the team’s new logo and colors. Created by minority owner, hip hop icon and Brooklyn native Jay-Z, the new primary logo retains the shield from its previous iteration, and adds the Brooklyn ‘B’ to the basketball that has been part of every logo since the franchise’s 1967 inception as the Americans. The logo is also inspired by the Brooklyn Dodgers, who used a similar lettermark on their logo and caps. Brooklyn is also spelled out below.
The secondary logo is a ‘B’ inside a basketball, surrounded by the words “Brooklyn New York.”
For fans anxious to proudly display the new B-branded logo, New Era has already released two 59Fifty Fitted Caps, featuring both the primary and secondary team logos. You can pick up each cap today at Eastbay.
